So I've just got off the phone from VW Customer services off the back of my request for my ED30 plaque. Long story short, they won't let me have my plaque because their systems see my car as a regular GTI.
It looks like the car was built for the German market with UK spec which, according to the guy I spoke to, means that it is a LHD car with a RHD conversion. I've always thought the stereo looked like it faced slightly to the right and he told me he actually saw something similar in his polo (glad to know I'm not mad ).
What other differences would there be between my converted car and an ED30 built for the UK market?

I think it might be a UK spec car sold by a German dealer into UK rather than imported via VW UK. That was rather popular back in the day of 1.45 euro to the pound and how I bought mine, some 20% cheaper than my local VW dealer was asking. It seems highly unlikely that someone is going to have spent £££ converting a cheap and plentiful car like this from lhd to rhd.
