Title: Air conditioning/oil usage
Post by: Jules183 on July 13, 2020, 11:04:54 am
Hi, and thanks for accepting me to the forum.... I have a couple of questions, firstly Air Conditioning, we an have E Con button does that mean we have air con and if so what should it cost to have re gassed as if we have it, its rubbish .... we are about to take a drive to Spain and are slightly concerned as we also seem to be using a fare amount of oil approx 1 litre every 1200 miles the mechanic seems puzzled as there are no leaks any where we have the car regularly serviced

Any help would be  very much appreciated

I believe the earlier cars have the econ button which switches the ac off. AC is 'on'  by  default on those.

Ring around some local garages for quotes on AC regassing, even kwik fit are fairly competitive.

VW state a max of 1000km (621miles) per litre for oil consumption so yours is 'ok' keep an eye on it during your long trip!

That does sound pretty horrendous really when you stop to think about it. 621 miles is say 20 gallons of petrol at 30ish mpg. 1 litre of oil per 90 litres of fuel. 2 strokes typically run on 50:1 premix.

I think for it to use that much it must smoke visibly.

Has the oil consumption changed recently?
