Afternoon all
Tried searching for an answer but I've not got long before I start work.
My 05 gti (AXX) is sounding like a sewing machine when it's starts getting warm and I think it's the chain and tensioner but I'm no expert.
Quick check today with VCDS and its saying
Cam adjustment intake Bank 1 46.3%
Cam adjustment intake B1 (spec) 24.0°KW
Cam adjustment intake B1 (act) 23.5-24.0°KW
Engine load 14.3%
Phase position bank 1 intake -4°KW
Engine speed (G28) 800/min
Does this look stretched from the data?
I've no idea what it's supposed to be good or bad.
Any help would be appreciated as the local garage have a slot for tomorrow and I need to let them know asap if I want it done. Thanks

The VVT adjuster will compensate, so it's best to perform that check with the N205 solenoid disconnected. Ideally it needs to be as close to 0KW as possible but it's not always achievable due to wear in the VVT housing. 0 to -3KW is about right though.
Another check you can do is remove the vacuum pump and have a look at the height of the tensioner piston. You can see it through the hole but a cheap borescope from Amazon will get you closer to the action. If the piston looks massively extended, it's probably a good idea to replace it and the chain because eventually it will run out of adjustment.
For the time being, it looks like the VVT is doing it's job so nothing to worry about just yet :happy2:
