Title: Retro-Fitted the Xenons(the outcome) with vid and pics
Post by: mortygttdi on March 18, 2010, 03:44:23 pm
This has really been done on a very very tight budget by me Mr Scrooge :happy2: The headlights cost me £300 with the bulbs, ballasts and every thing else.

I also bought the auto leveling but got the parts minus the loom from Ebay.DE the headlight range module is an 8P0 unit from an Audi A3 and the sensors are from the Golf,

Every thing else washer jets and hose I got off ebay.co.uk for £11  :happy2: that included the 4 bumper mouldings, 2 Jets and the full hose right to the pump.

A couple of pics

No Xenons

In all its cost me about £550-£600 including the 2 looms from Kufatec for the washers and auto leveling

Nice one Morty, good that you did it properly, with washers and levelling just a shame to get your nice clean car dirty with the washer fluid, sadly I wash my wind-screen before switching the lights on just after cleaning.  :stupid:

excellent work, did the washers not need a new pump for the washer container, or were they just bolt on the existing system??  :congrats:

Cheers Jake :happy2: the system needed an extra pump for the headlight washers but there is a space in the existing bottle, it just needed an hole for the pump and another for the level sensor cutting out.

I bought the kufatec washer loom which incorporates the pump and washer level sensor in one.

I could do this stuff all day long,  Infact I fitted Golfmans heated washer jets on Monday and before that did the auto leveling and washers in a day all in.

Cheers Andy will get up to yours when I have some spare time mate :happy2:

Nath any time mate, very easy to do the only bit I still hate doing is splicing into the can bus very restricted access where the can buc module is,  I need to find somewhere else I can splice into where I have better access.

Top Job Daz! Excellent stuff. I think Xens make the front profile of any car and look tip-top on the Golf  :pomppomp:

I'm literally mid retrofit with this. My Xenons are sat to my left in my clothes cupboard and the levelers will be ordered once regular car renewals are out the way in June.

What was fitting the levelers like?
Where abouts are you based if you don't mind me asking bud? PM me if need  :happy2:
Thanks.

Looking good Darren.

How did you get the DRL's to work? I didn't think they could be enabled if retrofitted? Is it to do with the levelers?  :happy2:

I'm in Leeds mate,  the levelers are not hard to do if you have a good guide, http://furmanka.blogspot.com/2007/12/mk5-wiata-ksenonowe-z-samopoziomowaniem.html (http://furmanka.blogspot.com/2007/12/mk5-wiata-ksenonowe-z-samopoziomowaniem.html)

I will be putting some jets with the hose and bumper moulding in red on the bay,  the jets are ment for the standard golf or r32 although I had them on mine for a few weeks and they work perfectly, its just the brackets that are different.

Ollie yes mate I think its some thing to do with the auto leveling wiring and how it goes through the central electrics,  Although for some reason it doesn't always activate through the coding,  I did it the other day but turned it off...then did it again today and it wouldn't turn on.

Mr Rascal any time mate

Are these lights second hand? I put the hella look-a-likes (posted them on hella xenon look thread), with blue h7 bulbs cost me around £340 total lol. I feel a bit mugged off if you got the real deal for the same price(less washers and auto levelers) lol :sad1:

 yes £300.  I have to admit though I had to buy a new ballast for one of them cos it had blown...think it cost me £50?  There has been some cheap ones on the bay like Ollie said he got his for around the same price has me.

Cheers

The same module that everyone goes on about for the infotainment units? There's a good thread on r32oc.com where the guy gets to it via the bonnet after removing the scuttle panel near the wipers. Makes it look a lot easier than ferreting about under the dash!

As is the case with most things on my GTI, the fuse seems to have gone on my washers,so they have never worked, any idea which one it is?
Also, not got the levellers on my xenons, do you still get people dipping there headlights to warn you as they think you have full beams on? As I do, think that is more down to the power of the lights rather than the levellers though.
