Well,
I took the car to my local (and usually good) dealers for it's 3rd yr service. Not much for them to do given the modifications that I have. Basically check the tyre depth, pad wear and a change of oil and filter....don't clean the car or touch the ECU and TCU and make sure they look after it. Can't go wrong there eh?
WRONG!!
The last two services were done with long life oil and it is in my file they have. It specifies long life oil on T7D servicing regime. They had the car for 4 hrs and put in normal semi-synthetic oil
The one thing that they had to change to the car and they cocked it up!! :fighting:
Then the service manager says it isn't there fault because I didn't re-specify it for the 3rd service and wanted to charge for the change of oil :surprised:
I have a couple of questions...
I read somewhere that long life oil is used as standard on GTI's anyone confirm or refute this?
I now have semi synthetic oil in the car until next week. I reckon it will be fine running this, but is there anything I should be careful of, like longer warm up times etc (I understand it is 10-40 oil)?

youre running long life schedule on your tuned motor?
Would have thought you would want to change oil more frequently and using 5w-30 fully synthetic?
-
as above 10 40 is what i use and have always put it in the car as its never in long enough 8 to 10k with me and yes John its fine

I'm on time and distance regime (the T7D should be T&D in my first post :ashamed:). I only do around 8k a year maximum and the engine has had an interim oil change last year when the engine was out :happy2:
I have always specified using the 5W-30 synthetic oil with my dealer even though on T&D, it just happens that my dealer didn't read my requirements before shoving the 10W-40 oil in.

Cheers Matt. :happy2:

just make sure they stuck a 1 litre top up in the boot as thats what they should do so u know what make of oil the use

why dont you do it yourself john , your vw warrenty must be long gone any way ?

I think it was TT who said LL oil was standard across the range now. If you ask VW UK they should be able to verify this and then you can go and tell your dealership. I would have specified LL oil anyway regardless of whether they know or not.

I took out a VW service plan, so it's all paid for now :happy2:
Runs out at the end of March along with the warranty, so I'll be stepping up the modding/ripping out after then
