So after having my first car (golf 1.4 fsi), I'm due an upgrade, hopefully when i turn 21. I'm wondering if theres anything I need to know before a buy something like this. Such as cost and issues. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you :)

Hey.
So common things I'm aware of...
Door locks - all Mk5s can have issues with the doors locking/unlocking properly so check thse
Rust - Front arches ALL go, and you can get rust on the sills and rear arches too, and I believe on the boot lid so something to watch out for.
Injectors go - so make sure it's running right, no misfires etc.
Timing belt is a much more frequent interval than the book suggests, so check it's been done in the last 40k miles
There will be other things I'm not thinking of rn too I'll come back if I remember!

Mk5 GTI's are rude, but they have years and there are a lot of common issues and services that needs to be done... if possible go for a low mileage unit.
Now days on youtube there are a lot of guides of How to buy a GTI I will recomend those both to you:

Ivrr we pulsing say miles is the be all. Go for condition and speak to the owner, generally you get a better idea of the car etc.
