Title: CAN - gateway
Post by: Cozza on December 05, 2020, 02:40:31 pm
Hi all, I’ve recently changed my CAN-gateway from 1K0907530K to 7N0907530. I’m really struggling with the coding as there is a lot more bytes and the boxes are not in the same place. Would it be easier to switch to a 1K0 907 530L? could anyone offer me any advice or know where I can get a pre coded gateway? Thanks

Did you not note the existing gateway options before fitting the new one?

TBH, it's not that difficult.  Just tick the options in the new GW that apply to your vehicle.

Why did you change GW? RNS 510 battery drain? You only need a newer GW for really old 510s. A, B & C revisions.  Any 510 that has an LED screen (rev P onwards iirc) or an SSD drive (rev S and T onwards) doesn't need a GW.  Battery drain issue is fixed internally to the Radio with software.

Thanks for the reply. The only thing I can think of is I didn’t take a picture of the whole installation list before installing the new gateway, As far as I’m aware that’s the only thing I didn’t do. I took a picture of all the byte boxes and matched them up as best as I could. The reason for installing the new module is I recently fitted a RNS 315 DAB radio and was experiencing battery drain issues. My main issue I have with the new gateway is that I have no PNRS on display and it doesn’t tell me what gear I’m in (edition 30 DSG)

The installation list does differs from gateway to gateway, so item 5 lets say on your original will/may ref a different module on the new gateway.....which is why photos are needed ideally to cross reference old to new correctly.

worst case scenario is that the the old one gets fitted so you can get the correct details, before fitting the new one again

Thanks for your help. I think what I’ll do is plug the old gateway back in and make sure I’ve got photos of everything to cross reference. The installation bit looks relatively simple, it’s just the long code helper is difficult because there is a lot more byte boxes on the new module and the boxes are in different places

I upgraded mine for a used Passat 7N0 gateway - it lists at least 75% more items, the order/grouping is jumbled about, plus iirc wording of items also subtly changed - it doesn't help that interesting items such as hybrid battery charging and adaptive cruise distract - it's not straightforward.

As suggested by mjmallia -it is a pita to do, but I would be inclined to plug in the old canbus - take screen shots of old list, best windows software for this is Snip tool, I needed 2 images to catch all the items for mine, and with the complete list of ticked items slowly work your way through the 7N0 canbus list.

For me with a used gateway, I had to carefully go into each item to check the coding was set up for 3 door Golf instead of 4 door Passat.

Thanks for the input. Can I just confirm it is just the installation list and long coding I need to take pictures of isn’t it? and then match up to the new gateway. My new used gateway is from a mk6 golf so didn’t think it would be that complicated  ah well, you live and learn.

That should be it in terms of getting what you want from the old gateway
