The RNS 510 is VW's latest sat nav system, it is an absolutely fantastic bit of kit and looks much more at home in the dash than any aftermarket system! I think they can be picked up for around £600 now, Mortygttdi on here sells them :happy2:
-
I'd personaly go for the RNS510 which is the VW unit and is outsanding! They are around the £600 mark just now and come up for sale here from time to time. :happy2:

yep,
+1 for darren (mortygttdi)
Have a look in the group buy section! ;)

Can these be used in conjunction with the 6 cd player under the armrest ?
... are they MP3 compatable too ?
Cheers,
Ben
-
Yeh, they are compatible with those! and yep, MP3 compatible. you can also use a 32gb SD card loaded with music too.
Or you can plug your iPod in with full control and track names if you use the MDI ipod connector! ;)

is it a case of just switching my bluetooth on , and away u go ????

you need a bluetooth kit.

they are well worth it

Up until 2 weeks ago I was floating around with a door pocket full of CDs and an old style MFD.
Just recently I have been exposed to RNS510 / Media In / and factory bluetooth.
WOW! Its ace all works of the steering wheel as well
All supplied and fitted by Our Darren (Mortygttdi) he's also a lot cheaper than ebay

I have had two different stereos in my car since taking out the RCD300, and neither have lived up to my expectations.
Have heard nothing but great reviews for the RNS510, or you could get the lower spec %CD510, which is the same console but without sat nav, which is cheaper.
Im part of the group buy for the RNS510, and the MDI kit to get full ipod usage too, £650 total for it all.

Have a read of this topic as Darren has a few units left to sell. I'm hoping to get the full works (RNS510, MDI kit and phone kit) from him very shortly.

If you still have any questions drop him a PM, he's extremely helpful :drinking: :drinking:

I'll add my 2p here. I'm not overly convinced about the RNS.
The MAIN advantage for going RNS is that it looks (and is) totally OEM.
Personally, I've gone for a Pioneer F900bt (now been superseded by the F910) - better Ipod interface, based on I-Go satnav, built in Bluetooth for phone.
NO built-in HD for tunes, but you can put your own HD onto the USB connection.
But for me, the big one is the sound.
I'm sure RNS is a great box, but imho, if your spending that type of money (+ the bluetooth module AND MDI for ipod?), it's a LOT of money for what it is.
Plus it's much easier to put your own amps etc onto with an aftermarket machine.
The other pro of the RNS is the integration into the VW's highline and MFSW.... that is nice. But I don't have either (nor do I miss them).
Aftermarket all the way :happy2:
