Title: MK5 6 speed conversion
Post by: kexelt on January 23, 2021, 08:21:24 pm
Hi everyone,

Have a 2008 1.4 BUD. I know it's not a GTI but would like to swap the 5 speed gearbox to a 6 speed from a GTI or 1.4 tfsi. Does anybody have experience and done this before? Will it fit? What else do I need to replace? Thanks a lot

Almost certainly more hassle that its worth in all honestly.

Thanks, but still if there is a solution, I would like to try. The original 5th gear is very short and revs over 3.000rpm at a speed of 100km/h.

Thanks anyway

GTI gearbox won’t work but the MK5/6 1.4 TSI box might. The GTI and TDI got a completely different gearbox and clutch because of the higher torque.

I’ve located a 1.6 fsi gearbox from a 2007 passat, the profile looks the same, I’m wondering will i need different shafts to suit
