As some members are aware the forum got moved to @dazza (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10457) server and Alex was paying for the upkeep of it but unfortunately Alex is going to stop paying so either we find another server(if any one knows one or has one) or need voolenteer payment of £10 a month of members (the amount is £60 to keep it going)so the forum stays live or unfortunately the forum will dissappear

Any suggestions are welcome.
The site is hosted on a low spec dedicated server (outdated now) we can probably find something cheaper as its only for the one site. But hosting is tricky without a recommendation as most cheap server are rubbish.
Also we could migrate the forum to a newer or different forum software.
We could slap banners everywhere :rolleye:

I think ad banners are not such a stupid idea, but i have no idea how much revenue they would create.
I doubt you'll get people to pay, the problem being that FB is basically the 'go to' platform now, superseding forums.
Sad times, but I hope it can be saved.

Or get site sponsors back in the game again. That worked quite well when I was taking care of things.

A sponsor would be nice, the backlinks from this site would be very helpful to any car part site.
Maybe we can incorporate the donation pot into the site so everyone knows what we need.

I’m happy to support this forum. I’m in a few Facebook groups for other stuff, but they’re not the same or as good as a forum imho.
Why not go grab a PayPal link and paste it here to get the ball rolling.

There was a reason I didn’t update it to beyond what it is now, and I think it was to do with the forum theme that isn’t supported beyond the current version.

Even the latest version seems old and dated :sick:. I was expect an I am not a robot mod where you have to count the dice.

The search is running and its faster (SSD), currently search is only for logged in members. Maybe we can allow anyone to search?
But all of the packages are disabled. Im not ever sure what does what (apart from the ones i built)

No one has actually contacted me with regards to moving forward. Even a hint of dialogue would have been good. Never said I would stop payments and I will continue to do so. Was expecting an email back from Daz. Atm I'm so busy with AKS and other projects that I've not been able to dedicate any time over here.
All I really want is a contribution to the page to keep it running. Though that being through some sponsors, or promoting AKS more.

I've added an AKS section to the page. Will try and use it to promote more. Going to speak with a few other tuners about getting them setup on the forum too.
I only see this as a good step going forward. I feel the forum has laid a little dormant for a while now. Most of the posts have been from Russians!!! :signLOL:
I do think a paid members section with various discount codes and other helpful information could be a good idea?

We are planning to move the server on Friday evening. I will put this site into maintenance mode they once the dns changes the new server will be visible.
