thats the story mrs pea got anyway

Despite the dropped look, IMO it's one of the most stylish looking MK5s out there. The green is an original colour that works surprolisingly well. Dare I ask how much it was to respray the entire thing?
-
can't wait to see what you do with this chris :happy2:

Although this style is not really my cup of tea, i think the guys that do this look
best are the ones that keep the body looking unmolested. The arches spoil this
one imo, makes me think of filler. Losing these will be a bonus

if it were mine to change id just really tidy it up, change the rear lights, get rid of the r32 rear and give it jay for a week of his skills! :innocent:

If it was my car,
Dash out for some thing very cool, R8 or some thing including the dash cluster 8)
the outside is perfect in my eyes but colour change to less in your face...
Engine out for the passat 3.6 but twin turbo or a supercharger

Replicate a standard Golf sport 'Rabbit look' car and like someone said get the Passat R36 engine in and twin turbo's to make it a sleeper

A standard gti doesn't wear a wannabe r32 rear or drag it's nipples on the floor ha ha.
But i do give you (and other baggy fellas) credit for your creations :happy2:

Fair comments guys, but it's only that i love this shape so much that i bother to
post. I see it like this . . . mr volkswagen gave us a fabulous car to work with and
if i see something that doesn't sit right visually, isn't it better that i'm honest enough
to give my opinion rather than keep it to myself.
It's like when you see a hoodie running from a granny flat - then later that evening
you think . . . "i should've rung the filth". Well i guess i'm just ringing the filth
-
and its works

Ok, apologies to any i've offended. I think my views, in part, stem from when i was
younger and my next door neighbour made the rear of his mk3 escort 1.6 gl look like
the xr3i and people laughed at him, well it's happening today and i'm not a fan.
Honesty is the best policy

I think you've made your point and some things you say make sense, but it's clear with your views that you are never going to like much about this particular car as it's intended to be different and far from standard! Therefore this thread isn't for you clearly and posting in it won't get you anywhere... Why not click the ignore button on this thread and save many people having to ignore your comments :signLOL:

In my experience its not what u say rather how u say it, for example i could say that Tommy30 was a complete idiot or i could say that tommy30 could possibly phrase his comments in a slight better way. I wouldnt dream of saying someone's car was sh1t i may however communicate that it wasnt to my liking..... I was once told that if you put yourself out there then youve gotta be able to take it so its all water of a ducks back, with the cars i build im used to it by now i :signLOL: I build MY cars the way I want to and if people like them all's the better, if not its no big deal
Im not trying to big my self up here and I know the mk5 dont appeal to "everyone" but in my experience its liked by most, ive had everything from 12 year old boys in the street to old grannies at Tesco telling me how nice the car is. Its had 5 magazine features, 3 covers and ive still got mags banging at my door to shoot it, the impact the car had on the VW community when it broke cover was said to have been the biggest in 10 years. If im honest the only negativity ive ever experienced has came from this forum which i can understand as you guys are the core fan club (dare i say purists) for the MK5 GTI etc etc.
As i said earlier in this thread i'll be sure to keep u guys up to date with how things progress with the car :happy2: u never know it might start ticking some of "haters" boxes .....there again maybe not :P
-
mate- you keep doing what you do.
this car had a profound effect on me just as i was buying my mk5.
if we dont have people like you pushing some boundaries we would all still be driving std!
and i was always told if you aint got something nice to say then dont say anything. constructive crit is one thing, but just not agreeing cos it aint your thing is a pointless exercise. and it stops people listening to you when you have got something positive or encouraging to say!
sub'd to this thread for the long haul!

I love your car, and I think the achievements that you've got so far speak for themselves :happy2:

Nope, if they took the photo themselves at a show - it's theirs to do with as they please. If they pinched it from Chris's website (if he has one...) or scanned a magazine shoot without permission it's a different story and IP has been infringed.
-
Cool mate,
Cannot wait to see what you do with it this time around.
Would have enquired about the wheels had you not got plans already! (and the seats, gutted I missed them!!!) Looking for something new for mine now.

i have a set of them in red in our turbo, they were a 5k option. :happy2:
Sorry your right 13k to buy outright someone on one of the porsche forums told me.
I ended up going for the replica seats which come in around £1000 I wanted OEM porsche ones and after 2 months of hunting found at set at around 4k but they were in cocoa which is a kinda browny red colour, id then have to trim em so would have been pointless paying loads extra for the porsche crest.
The reps are pretty good, only thing that lets them down is the leather and the way the padings are constructed and styled. Mike @ MJ Interiors and i had a good chat about it before i bought them and worked out a number of improvements. By the time Mike works his magic on them you aint gonna be able to tell the difference, weer also going for some carbon harness gudies and recaro frames so the only bit gonna be left untouched is the carbon bucket frame which is actually a really good standard.

Guy next door my garage is a blacksmith done a fair bit of this in the past. Above is just a mock up
-
When mike polished the wheels he found that 1 of the tyres were nackered and after hunting for one to match the other 3 nangkangs with zero luck i just ordered 4 falkens which finally arrived and got fitted yesterday . So today was the first time after getting the bagyards plumbed up that i got a chance to see how it sits, could do with another 10mm at the front but im hoping that it will settle a bit after ive done a few miles.
The hatefull retarded blind cage builder has finished the cage and its full of hatefull retardedness which is good. Ive went for painting the cage and it got a blast of Keets Pea Green yesterday at the same time as the boot floor area.
PICS.....

I can't quite put my finger on it but it looks more sorted then it did last year at UD.
What are the specs on those rollers?
not much changed really mate, i think it sits slightly higher at the front on the new struts that it did before. Wheels are just factory BBS RS 290's but had a polish 18x9.5, ET18, 5x112 :happy2:
-
Looks awesome, out of interest how come you've got the near side quarter smoothed over but the rest aren't?
-
well spotted,
-
Looks awesome, out of interest how come you've got the near side quarter smoothed over but the rest aren't?
its not smoothed over just missing mate. It wasnt on right, just one of the many things that needed sorted after i bought it back. I needed something to match the body colour to interior choices so whipped it off :signLOL:
-
Do the BBS Rs's just fit on or was there much modifying needed? I am keen to get me a set, but cannot find any on e bay, and no one seems to have a spare set!?
-
Much modifying ? you joking the arches are 3" wider all round :signLOL:
The wheels themselves went straight on but the high ET and width meant serious arch work as mentioned.
Ive got a set of 17x8.5 et37 they are 5x114.3 so would go right on with a set of wobble bolts, youve little chance of finding a set of 18's and even if you do they are all very low ET's. I know of a set of 18x8.5 ET18 (IIRC) but they arent cheap at 5000 USD

quality :signLOL: :signLOL:
-
looks great mate, love the polished rims, for some reason they look fatter than when they were green but maybe its my eyes lol :rolleye:
looking forward to seeing it in the flesh, if i ever get my arse to another dub show this year :ashamed:
:happy2:

I hope your job as a policeman doesn't need you to make many witness statements
Its easier to get a crate of banannas fitting right than those wheels.

Not updated this in a while, car wasnt ready for DC10 so its breaking cover at MIVW in Holland next week.
Im just about done just a few bits and bobs to finish.... Fit the front door cards, get a 510 in the dash and sort an issue with the steering angle sensor :driver:

OH MY GAAAWD!
Somebody has a seeeerious carbon fetish!!  :happy2:
-
Incredible matey, serious attention to detail there
-
looks amazing!! :happy2:
-
gorgeous
loving all the carbon pieces
-
have you put genuine carbon fibre on the stock parts or have you had molds made up and had new bits made of 100% carbon fibre ?
-
you carbon whore!
see you at the weekend mate.
-
have you put genuine carbon fibre on the stock parts or have you had molds made up and had new bits made of 100% carbon fibre ?
Its completely cost prohibitive and impossible one some parts mate, most of it is carbon over lay.
Which is essentially carbon fibre laid over the part for aethstetic purposes of course its adds weight which is kind the reverse purpose of carbon fibre but im not interested in weight loss as im not tracking the car.
-
How did your bump strip end up on the pish. We spotted a couple of Mk 5's at Inters like this but not quite as bad as that. :happy2:

yeah i know its mega ££££££ for stuff making hence the ????? if you had done that my mouth would have hit the floor  but its the only way to do it the way you have  looks awesome pure and simple

some of these interior parts you just couldn't make due to the way the mount in the car, moulding is simple on things like panels or simple parts but all the bits inside the mk5 have a 101 clips and moulded parts that you just couldnt make out of carbon i dont think.
I got a bit of stick on E38 for the fact that it was overlayed and as such adding weight but as i said my goal is looks over performance :happy2:
-
i 100% get it mate why spend £££££££ for nothing when you know its the look your after not saving weight and as you have no back seats you have saved some weight
-

TBH with the weight that the overlayed parts add, i could prob do a sh*t an shed more KG's :signLOL:

yeah plan too mate, i wasnt sure whether to do them in carbon, leather, smooth and paint em or alcantara so decided to get it finished first then it might help me make my mind up..... im still not any closer tho :signLOL:
-
All ready for MIVW?
Finally got the right bolts for the cage so that's its all secured up, front door cards were a mission but we got there in the end so they are all built up and fitted.
We mounted the fixings for the harnesses and fitted robs one to the passenger side.
Jamie made up a nice cover for the wheel well to hide all the air ride gubbings and also act as a platform for my spare wheels (pics to follow on that one )
Its all MOT'd, Tax'd and insured, Im gonna give it a quick service next week and still need to reset the steering angle but apart from that it just a case of cleaning it.
-
looking forward to having a gander at it at MIV chris, looks great keep up the excellent work, i'll have a crack with you about some bits if you have any time to talk at the weekend?
i really wouldn't take any notice of the people on edition slagging you for laying carbon over original parts, how many of them have actual carbon pieces on their cars? and the added weight is minimal!
jealousy is a terrible thing!!!
:happy2:

If you have the LED rear lights they light up 3 or 4 times and the LED's go round in circles lighting up when the ignition is turned on. 8)

got some more in the pipeline before E38, im planning an engine swap over the winter so minimal work in the engine bay.
-
Best i've seen in years.
Top drawer quality and imagination, looks like they copied you for the trophy.
Keep the ideas flowing, I'll be watching this thread with interest.

i dont imitate.......... ok i lied it was only a black primer :signLOL:
I hunted the web for a decent engine cover and eventually gave up and modified the STD engine cover to accept the new intake.
I saw a few posts on here regarding modifying the std cover but after seeing pics of illektronik's bay i decided it was the best way to go, like illektronik i cut out the air box section but i spent a bit of time plastic welding a section on the side to finish it off rather than leaving it exposed. I also spent a bit time trying to securing it better but in the end went with some good old velcro
Not sure if i like the engine cover in green to be honest but it will have to do for now, also colour coded the slam panel and expansion bottle (as my other one isnt finished)

You need some sort of visual line on the expansion bottle to see the fluid don't you. Okay, I check mine every time I open the bonnet (OCD ahoy!)

....I was going to say exactly the same. I too check mine every time I open my bonnet. It's stupid not to regularly check.

As part of my E38 preparations I decided to take the wheels off and give them a good polish and it would have been rude not to stick the Space Saver on for a wee picture

Was much work required to cut the engine cover to fit? Something I have been tempted to do recently?

Still so awesome man!

It's looking good, having a short number plate on it again would clean up the rear in my opinion.

Ah, so you're THAT Chris! I had no idea when you emailed me mate. Love the work on the plastic welding. Super clean. Looks mint. :happy2: Like the attention to detail. Appears as though the torx screws have even had a job done on them.
One hell of a build, and it's good to see you got it back and are pushing further ahead. :congrats:
