Hi,
Got an error code with the MAF sensor, I've tried cleaning it but its not going away. Does anyone know what the correct part number is please?

Hmmm indeed. The £35 one will 100,000% be a Chinese knock off. It's the engine's primary load sensor, not worth the risk.
If £142 is too much to stomach, the next best thing is the Hitachi one from CarParts4Less (EuroCarParts sister company) for £110. Hitachi were the original OEM supplier and you won't go wrong with that.

Ignore the 'Huco' or whatever label on it, it is the proper part. Hitachi keep rebranding themselves. They're a good brand. The genuine MAF and that Huco Boss one are both made in the UK, it's the same thing :happy2:
What is the fault code? Don't waste your time cleaning a MAF, it does absolutely diddly squat. If it's anything like "Short to Ground", "Short to B+" or "implausible signal - intermittent", bin it. They just wear out over time.
If unplugging it with the engine running does nothing, it's definitely dead. Another check is with a scan tool on live data. If the MAF reading is too low (less than 2g/s at hot idle) or it doesn't move, it's dead.

It did immediately clear the fault code, however are you saying it could cause damage, or just likely to fail quickly? Thanks

It shouldn't cause damage, but it will likely fail far sooner than an OEM one. The calibration could also be questionable. Keep an eye on the long and short term trims if you have a scan tool/VCDS :happy2:
5-6 years is a good life span for an OEM MAF. A Chinese one, who knows! If it lasts a year I'd be surprised, but if it gets you out of a hole in the short term, just roll with it :happy2:

Why didn't I listen?! It failed after just 3 days throwing a code relating to the MAF sensor and a new one related to fuel trims :scared:
I've now bought and fitted the Hitachi one as I got a deal on one for £60. Early days but I did a 300 mile drive yesterday and no codes yet so fingers crossed it will see me right.

3 days! That is a quick death even for a Chinese one!
Never mind fella, you live and learn, £95 for both of them is still £45 cheaper than a new one from VW :happy2:
The problem with Chinese sensors is they aren't calibrated and tested like the oem/oem equivalent ones are. They just copy what they can see physically, but don't necessarily understand the inner workings. The MAF might seem like a simple piece of plastic externally, but inside it is a very complicated and finely tuned electronic circuit, which the engine totally relies on to run properly :smiley:

Yeah that's the right one. Hitachi do make them for VW, and also the High Pressure Fuel pump, so don't be put off by the brand if you're not familiar with it.
