Title: Mk5 bumper alignment
Post by: AJB-09 on August 15, 2021, 06:41:34 pm
I was wondering if anyone can help me with getting my bumper to sit right on my 07 mk5 R32…it just doesn’t sit tight enough near the headlights. I’ve had it off and got it to sit a bit better but it still isn’t how I want it! Do I need new brackets or can I adjust something?

Looks like your front panel is a little low, height is held by the front crash bar with 4 big bolts on each side.
Slacken those off and you should able to lift the front panel and re-tighten - unless the panel has been replaced - there usually is a clean tell tale outline around the bolt to line everything up.

Thank you for that, it’s definitely worth a try and not something anyone has said yet. With the front bumper removed can I get to these bolts or does anything else need to come off?

Just bumper off will give you access to the bolts - IIRC they are 16mm - should be pretty tight.

I would get someone to help support the panel - you have lights, rad, fans, intercooler, not an insignificant weight to balance and tighten bolts + get it level. If its the original panel there should be a mark to show where the panel should line up.

Moving the crash bar up worked, managed to get some time at last and loosened the bolts on the crash bar, lifted it with a Jack and bolted back up now the bumper sits snug so thank you for that insight  :drinking:

The bonnet latches a lot better as well when the crash bar is at the correct height  :happy2:

It's amazing how many 'expert' tuners leave the crash bar on full droop after intercooler/radiator/walnut blasting work  :congrats:

Mines the exact same, always thought my bumper had sagged and couldn't get it sitting right. Never thought about raising the whole lot. Might have to give that a go!

The bolt holes in the crash bar are much bigger than the bolt.  There's almost 10mm up/down adjustment iirc.

Maybe there's scope for lip fillers and tatooed on eyebrows?
