Title: Damaged gear linkage pivot arm/tower
Post by: GolfGerry on August 16, 2021, 06:35:34 pm
Hi all, unfortunate first post incoming!

I had to replace a load of gear linkage parts today. I noticed a hairline fracture in the pivot arm. As I removed the side-to-side shifter I could feel it begin to go, was extremely soft and unfortunately a decent sized piece broke away.

Obviously this is attached to the gearbox but looking at it I'm not sure it's a simple "bolt on/bolt off" job.

For now I cleaned and reassembled everything with new sleeves etc. The car shifts through gears fine and I cannot see any stress being put on the side-to-side through pin. However obviously I would prefer to fix this properly ASAP.

Even if there's no additional stress caused and it could theoretically work fine, with that section missing dirt etc will easily get into the new sleeves and cause it all to bind up again. Can't think of a suitable way to protect the exposed section of the sleeve.

Perfect, thank you. Now I just need to find some assembly instructions to see if anything special is needed during disassembly of damaged part and fitting of new part.
