Title: HPFP and VIS internals sitting in a box for years.
Post by: pandaman on September 12, 2021, 12:54:09 am
I bought a brand new genuine HPFP and VIS internals all the way back in March 2019. Fitted the internals to the pump and it’s been sitting in a box waiting to be fitted until now.
Going over the instructions to refresh myself on the whole thing I’m starting to think, do I need to take it apart again and RE-lube it with fresh oil? Will it have “gunked up” and be unusable? Surely a standard HPFP can sit in storage for months or even years and be fitted absolutely fine. Will it just be pumped though with oil once I fit it? Taking it apart again isn’t too hard a task but I’m just wondering if it’s necessary.

Cheers

You might add a drop or two of oil to the piston where it goes into the retainer nut, which houses the two seals. Then just manually push the piston in a few times. As soon as it is started, it will have fuel on the inside and oil on the outside. But yeah...it wouldn't hurt to disassemble it for a cleaning before installing it.

Thanks for the reply, that's good to hear. Thinking of fitting it this weekend, does anyone know how much, if any, of a power increase I'll get fitting it without a remap?

The insurance company will likely want to know.
