I replaced the diverter valve 2 years ago as the idle and revs had a mind of their own - same thing happening again so i have to assume its the diverter valve again - but goes bad after 2 years ?

Quite possible if it's a Revision A or G, with it's thin rubber diaphragm.

Have you actually checked it?  Plenty of other things can cause idling and rev issues.
