Does anyone know where the best place is to buy OEM Sachs shocks and top mounts?
Also, does anyone recommend the racingline performance shocks? Im looking at new shocks. I can't afford B12s or B8s, so it is either OEM or maybe the racingline ones for £375.
Cheers.

Dealer or ECP.
Bilstein B4 are OEM equivalent and 50 quid each from Demon Tweeks. That's probably what I would go for over the Sachs or Racingline personally.
-
I had read some bad things about the B4s.
Wonder how the Racinglines compare to them or the Sachs. Wouldn't mind spending up to the Racinglines but not the B12s haha.
-
I have the B4's and they are fine with Eibach sportlines.
No crazy driving these days, but been on the car three years now and drives like OEM.....sometimes a little harder with the springs, otherwise fine with the family

Haven't read anything bad about them personally, but I suspect negative feedback from those is from people thinking they're uprated (like the B6/B8), but they're not. They are a like-for-like OEM replacement, perhaps 10% stiffer than stock at the most, as they're also designed to take mild lowering springs.
I've had the Racingline damper/spring kit in the past and I didn't like it. A lot of other folk do though.

Fitted up H&R lowering springs with the Racingline sport shocks. Will this take time to settle?
See the photos below. Comparing this to others with the H&R springs, theirs seems a lot lower than mine. I can only think that it's the shocks that might be causing it to sit higher currently, or is it my eyes and it is actually sitting correct?

Is anyone able to shed any light on it?
Cheers.

thinking of replacing my dampers also and springs as the ones which are on seem very stiff and a tad too low as you sometimes get scraping on certain speedbumps, i have seen a bilstein b4 and eibach sportline kit for sale on ebay for £330 which seems good value, also considered the racing line but i think a member on here made the comment of being soft enough that there was some arch rubbing which put me off, i dont know if its just my car but its way too unsettled going fast over bumpy b roads,

Which H&R springs did you get? Mines on the 30mm and sits a bit lower than yours. Your brand new shocks might give a bit more resitance causing it to sit higher. Did you make sure they are the GTI specific H&R springs not the generic MK5 ones some of the shops also sell?
-
It won't be the shocks causing it to sit high. Suspect the springs are the non-GTI ones.
-
The springs I got are:
H&R KBA 91223
29176 - 1 VA front
29176 HA rear

Are these correct? I have just finished fitting them this weekend gone and driven it once for time reference to the photots.
-
Should be the correct ones at least acording to Awesome GTI. The ones i bought have the same part number as yours. Maybe it will settle a bit.
-
I think they are correct, I researched it a fair bit on the forums.
I just don't understand why it isn't as low as other cars with the same setup.
-
Anyone able to shed any light on why it's sitting higher that others?
-
Are you running spacers? Looks like it in the pics. If so then it will look different to cars without. Dunno what the big deal is anyway. Looks fine as it is.
-
i have 12mm and 15mm spacers along with Bilsten B4s with 30mm H&Rs and mine is way lower then that.

Had 13mm front spacer and nothing on the rear in those photos. Was just trying the spacers out to see what worked best on the front, am getting a 15mm set for the rear.
And yes that is the difference, I don't understand why mine is sitting so high! Really don't get it.
-
Did you make sure the front dampers were fully bottomed out into the steering knuckles? They can sometimes bind 5-10mm up from the bottom.
If not that, maybe speak to the suppliers of the springs/dampers.
-
Did you also leave the lower rear shock bolts and arms loose, so that you can tighten them up when the car was on the floor or ramps...........otherwise you can add tension to the bushes if tightened with the wheel hanging in the air, making them kind of act like a spring under tension. That would also wear them out quicker and raise/push the car up a little
Hope that made sense
