Title: Does my timing chain need replacing?
Post by: Mk5gti on January 20, 2022, 09:28:30 pm
I own a 2007 mk5 Gti dsg. It’s on 140k and don’t have any proof of timing chain being done. I did a scan on vcds, just wondering looking from these results if I need to get it changed, is it stretched?

The small cam chain starts to fail (well the tensioner is the main culprit) usually between 80k and 100k on average (rattling noises until it gives up and makes the engine eat itself), so at that miles I would be surprised if it has not be changed in the past.......but would say it would be worth changing for peace of mind

I believe that those specs are related to the cam belt on the other side of the engine.

Those numbers look fine.  If the chain isn't noisy, I'd leave well alone.
