Hello guys,
I will get the H&R 30mm springs soon, having read through this thread: https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,79693.165.html (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,79693.165.html)
As far as I know, my car has the 20mm lowered suspension just like the GTI does, so I guess I the GTI springs are the ones for my car?
Thank you in advance!

H&R for non-GTI = part no. 29261
H&R for GTI = part no. 29176
29261 drops a GTI around 10mm from factory ride height. Perfect with Bilstein B6 or B4 for those having to deal with Serbian farm tracks.
29176 drops a GTI around 30mm from factory ride height. Perfect with Bilstein B8 for those blessed with smooth roads.
As for the spring rate differences, who knows, H&R don't publish them. I suspect the non-GTI H&Rs will be softer than GTI spec.
You might want to cross reference the coloured paint blobs on your factory springs to confirm they are actually GTI spec first. It is assumed that GTI, GT TDI, GT and GT Sport all got the same shocks and springs (the common theme being 'GT' = sports suspension), but worth finding out for sure before spending any money.

Thank you very much for the reply and information.
So if my assumption is right, and I do have the GTI springs on my car I should be looking at GTI spring part numbers?
Found this thread but if you scroll down to the last post you will understand my confusion.

My car is build in 2008

America & Canada got different suspension to Europe, so I wouldn't read too much into that.
The only confusion is your car not being a GTI, so the lowering amounts will be differ across the models, hence why you need to first establish exactly what is fitted to your car. Either go to the dealer with your VIN no. and cross reference the part numbers to a GTI, or get under the arches and grab some part no.s.

VW will not give me any part numbers as part of their policy they say. I am located in Cyprus.
I will have to get under the car and see the part numbers myself. In the meantime, I really think that the springs and suspension setup are GT only so neither the GTI or Normal model lowering springs will be an exact fit - just a guess.
Might be a better idea to go with a full shock and spring setup after all.

Yes I think you would be wise to go with a spring and shock kit for a 1.4 TSI specifically to avoid any confusion and disappointment.
You could try looking up part numbers using this catalogue - https://volkswagen.7zap.com/en/rdw/
It's not the easiest to navigate, but useful.

Thanks for the link, not user-friendly but really helpful indeed. I am a web developer so I will figure it out :jumping:
Got any recommendations for a spring and shock setup? ideally looking at 30-35mm drop. The car will only be used at the street not track so an upgraded street setup like Bilstein B12?
-
Yeah the difficult part is choosing the right year and 'variant' to get the right parts listed. I think it also accepts a VIN no. search?
If your roads are smooth, you could try the B12 kit (for 1.4, not GTI) otherwise I would personally go with the non-GTI H&R springs with Bilstein B6 dampers, or B4 if you just want an OEM replacement damper.

Why non GTI springs? my axle weight is 1050 and i've been told by awesomegti to go with the GTI ones. So confusing :scared:
-
Nothing stopping you use GTI springs, but the 1.4's drivetrain is a lot lighter than the GTIs, so you might find the front end a bit bouncy over bumps if you use GTI springs.
It is indeed confusing, hence why you should stick to vehicle specific parts
Its's good that you are asking these sorts of questions because some people focus solely on ride height, and then complain their car handles like sh1t

thank you!
Well, if I am gonna look at it and like the car, i wanna drive it and like it as well
