Title: My glassy MK5
Post by: TimW on March 09, 2022, 09:38:02 pm
Hi all - I’ve wanted a Mk5 since they first came out and I was 18 at the time, as life goes on, the time came that now is a good time for me to jump into this awesome era of Golf GTI’s. I went on the hunt and managed to recently pick up this MK5 GTI from a local YouTuber - I managed to grab some pictures from the internet as they’re much better than I can take!

It has a few little mods but just plan to keep it clean and tidy  :happy2:

Here’s a recent video

Haha I was wondering if the new owner would pop up on here! Fairplay the detailing done on it makes it look outstanding :happy2: any plans with it?

To be fair he spent a lot of money on that car since he bought it, I remember watching one of the videos when he bought it.
I’d be sorting that kinked exhaust out though… can’t believe he left the garage with it like that… Not that I’ve got OCD or anything…(straightens pencils on desk).

Enjoy it mate! Looks a good buy!

No plans other than trying to source a stock or resonated system. I may try a local exhausts place if I have no luck, for me it’s just a little too noisy day to day. Although the DSG farts and pops are nice.

I remember watching the detailing transformation and it was amazing how much better the paintwork looked.

I can’t promise to keep it perfect, I’m trying to two bucket method and leaf blow drying it but swirls are starting to appear slightly!

Although I can always return to them for a maintenance detail, which I may do.

Yes - I too also wondered if it would appear here.

I remember the episode where he got the Cobra system fitted - this really interested as mine came with the same noisy non-res Cobra cat back - nearly fell off my seat when he said it was just right on the motorway!

Mine was so bad, motorway was just drone, my family could hear the Golf 1/2 a mile away & it scared old people!
My fix  - I didn't try Cobra directly, I took it to a local specialist and had to get a silencer welded in.
To be fair, it wasn't till I replaced the downpipe that I found the OEM downpipe flexi was blowing - not helping the noise.
I would stay fix what you have - the DSG farts are great, a downpipe releases over run pops too - loud when you want it.

The detail it got was mad - you need to keep to try maintain that.

Nice one Tim,

I watched all the videos. I cant remember if the guy ceramic coated it after he did all the machine polishing? I doubt it if swirls are appearing already.

Did you do a pre wash? Maybe have a look at the Autoglym Polar range. Its quick and easy... I just done my GTI and my dads car yesterday and was pretty impressed with it.

Enjoy it mate

Oh yes, she has 5-year Nasiol NL272 Nano Ceramic Coating in every nook and cranny, alloys, inside alloys, wheel arches. Also, the car had a maintenance top-up in Dec/Jan just gone by Konings Detailing. https://shop.konings.co.uk/products/nasiol-nl272-ultimate-ceramic-protection

Just put a 12-month MOT on yesterday and after doing almost 5k miles in 2/3 months I am considering parting ways already as my work situation is changing slightly and the miles are increasing quicker than I'd like.. I usually do 700-800miles per month and it just so happened that I picked up a project which is causing me to drive around 1500-1750miles per month! Whilst fuel is reimbursed via the company, it's more miles than I wanted to do in this car...

Open to DM's to sensibly discuss parting ways but I've not made any decision yet.

What a beaut! Is it the ceramic coat giving that rainbow tint on the headlights or is is something else?

Just the Nasiol GlasShield Nano Repellent coating. It's genuinely a treasure!
