Hi I've got a fault code P0441 I've replaced the N80 purge valve with a bosh one & still has the fault code. Only thing I can think of next is the Carbon canister, anyone know what else it could be?
Is it's best to get a new genuine Carbon canister or none genuine Carbon canister?

I'm literally in the same boat as you but haven't replaced anything yet, so I'll be following this closely. I do hear that most people just replace the canister with one of the cheap ones and they work fine.

Yes - the fix for this fault always seems to be whatever part you replace first it's the other one that has failed!
For me I first replaced my canister with one from a Hong Kong seller, it arrived with the VW PN ground off and felt very OEM... VW are big in China, I suspect my canister was domestic OEM.
But - the fault returned and it was the valve that was faulty, OEM one is made by Bosch - so just got a genuine Bosch valve and that fault code has not re-appeared since.

If only other areas of the engine were as tightly monitored for vacuum leaks as the sodding evap system!
It's always 50/50 carbon can or N80 valve. Some folk have to replace both, some get away with just one of them.
And less common will be the petrol cap or a split line.

Evap system is only monitored closely because it has an impact on emissions.

So I've take me Carbon canister out to get the part number from it as it was a little dusty. Gave it a shake wondering what is inside since I've put it back on the fault code has gone, not sure if I've reactivate the Carbon inside by shaking it but time will tell.

It has charcoal pellets inside it. Sometimes they start breaking down inside and bits of charcoal can clog the the line or get stuck in the N80 valve, otherwise the 'activated' bit of the charcoal just doesn't filter out the hydrocarbons anymore. They just wear out over time.

I'm sure I saw it on an American forum ages ago......but someone cut open their oem canister and refilled it with charcoal pellets from a tropical fish store, then plastic welded the lid back on. Thriftiness to a whole new level that!
I'm not quite sure how the ECU knows the charcoal has run out of charcoaliness, but it must be expecting to see a very specific sized 'air leak' when the N80 opens, which needs X amount of lambda compensation. Any deviation from that flings the EML on quicker than a bank denying you a cash withdrawal when 1p overdrawn.

Bumping this but mainly to save it for later.
Getting the P0441 on and off ever since buying my whip.
Probably gonna start with switching the N80, but both seem like good maintenance boxes to tick off on an older car like it is by now.

Check your petrol cap isn't wiggly - I got a P0441 but I noticed the petrol cap seemed to wiggle a bit. Replaced it with a 10 euro Febi Bilstein one off Amazon and never got the code again after clearing it, even after brimming the car (which some people say can cause that code).

I bought a cheap 20 quid or so one off ebay. Been about 3 months and there have been no lights coming on so far. The cheap one definitely was a lot lighter than the OEM one I took out so I'm sure it's filtering capabilities are much worse but you get what you pay for I guess.

Are you talking about the N80 valve now, or the carbon canister?
