Hi guys, i have recently purchased a super high milage mk5 gti potentially the highest milage in the uk, and id be very interested to see if anyone has one with higher mileage, and maybe the old owner is in this group and could shed some light as to why they sold it and whether or not its mapped as it came with very limited history i have only got odd bits and bats of paperwork.

What's the mileage then? There are quite a few high milers kicking about. Mine's on 166K, all original hardware apart from the gearbox and clutch. A local lad has an ED30 on 210K miles, again, all original apart from the clutch.
-
Mines on 280k 😁
-
By the way beautiful ed30, id love to find out more about this gti as
Surely if someone didnt love it then it wouldnt of hit 280k miles but then I question how someone could loose all the paperwork but i guess its easily done sometimes
-
Currently an 05 gti on Autotrader with 237k (miles).
-
Upto press ive not seen one with higher milage yet, i mean its not a good thing by any means im just impressed that its running so well still, happy days at 280k miles if it is running a standard map i think its best i leave it that way..🤣
-
280k is very impressive indeed :happy2:
What has been replaced though?
-
Ive got paperwork for the high pressure fuel pump and 3 cam followers 4 shockers, front control arms, its got a pcv delete/ bypass and ive got a couple of old mot certificates and service receipts but surely at that milage it would of had alsorts changed, but ive no idea
-
That is good going - I had an old W124 300e that had that milage.
I was going to suggest the (now destroyed) TR Hamza High mileage Mk5...but that was only on a pitiful 200k miles.
Usually with that millage they have just lived on motorway, often constant use is better than under-use.
Not Mk5, but VAG related on YT Saving Salvage has a twin turbo V10 RS6 with 220k miles, just imagine the fuel burnt to get that far!
-
I bet the fuel that v10 has used over its time would of been enough pay for the materials to build an house lol
-
280k? That's impressive. Just goes to show how long these cars can last if maintained properly. I have seen a few around with 200k+, one recently that I saw sold with 225k ish. Just doing a bit of snooping around, some guy on another forum said his GLI made it to 370k miles before the tensioner failed and then killed the engine.
We are chilling at about 130k right now which seems about average at this time. Quite normal to see them between 100k - 200k
-
My 2007 is on 151,000….. a spring chicken….
-
Those mileages are a testament to how good they are to drive :happy2: And weirdly, how reliable they are
-
They certainly are mate, beautiful well made car’s some may think its a real bad idea buying a high milage car but im actually quite pleased to tell people my gti is still running perfect at nearly 300k miles 😂, as you said it goes to show how solid and well engineered they are even the interior and drivers bolster has barely any wear and tear 👌🏻

195k on the shell, suspension was replaced around 5k ago, engine is on 90K-ish, need to get the cam chain/tensioner done soon. Don't want another engine going bang
-
Was it your old car mate and i dont think no suspension was replaced on this car 5k ago ive had it on ramps myself to replace the diverter valve maybe it had new shockers i didnt inspect those but i could see that the springs was old as the coating had all pealed off in places so id guess there fairly old
-
And thankyou for the information on the shell and engine mate I appreciate it ill take your word for it 😁
-
Part of the reason these cars soldier on is because we spend so much money on them. My 2006 car is on 145k but it came with a history file that was an inch thick.
You could keep a 70s Fiat on the road with the amount I get done. It isn’t rocket science. 😆

A 70s FIAT would have crumbled to a pile of rust by 1985

😂😂😂 ive found a cam chain service kit which comes with the chain guide and vvt clutch for 120 new is this too cheap or about right? And how much am i talking for fitting if i dont give it a go myself, av changed bottom arms fuel pumps headlights bumpers interiors exhausts turbo on my old pd1.9 so i think i could give it a go once i get all the timing tools to lock everything in place

I was looking closely at this job until I tested with VCDS and found I had no issue with the chain. Make sure you actually need to do the job if you haven’t checked. I was quoted £650 just for the chain (including parts) by an independent so was planning to have a go.
It doesn’t seem that difficult, with the pitfalls being (1) buying a cheap cam locking tool and having it fail and (2) rounding the bolt that holds the adjuster to the cam. Neither are that big a deal.
I’d try and get a kit from a good brand like Febi or similar. No idea on cost of parts.

I hear their front wings and boot hatches are shocking. :rolleye:

My ones got 414,000 miles :)
Only had it since 05/02/25..
Apparently its the original BWA engine and manual box. Got the service book which is stamped every 10-20k miles since new but no invoices for the work. One garage looked aftered it from 2010 to 2017 and they know all about the car and confirmed the mileage is genuine. Since I've had it, done a bit of work to it and will be giving the engine a proper service this week.
My instagram is W9UHO if you wanna see the journey...

Very impressive. That's some mileage, it certainly doesn't look like it's done that many.
-
has your external roof whip aerial been removed/nicked or is that a shark fin antenna?
Looks mint for the mileage. :happy2:
