Title: CEL Runner flaps
Post by: colesey on April 05, 2022, 02:51:33 pm
I just had a CEL pop up with error codes P3193 and P0642 relating to the runner flap motor. Are there any common issues here? I am wondering if this might be related to a physical blockage (ie carbon clean needed) or a simple electronic issue eg corroded wiring / bad sensor. (I did try a search but the function isn’t working). Fwiw I managed to clear the light without it coming back (yet...) and the car drives well.

Google the codes and add ross tech wiki to your search, I've heard of the motors getting stuck before,

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/19649/P3193/012691

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/17026/P0642/001602

Chceck out special notes on there.

I did have similar codes once when I had my ED30, but they only came up once and didn't return.

Thanks @GVK (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=516), I had already googled those but was wondering whether there was a commonly known cause rather than a list of potential issues. Since both your light and mine reset fine, I won’t worry about it too much but will have it investigated when I get an inlet clean done later this year.

Be an ideal time to change the motor if you're having an inlet clean as I believe it's a right pain to change the motor in situ.
