Post by: imprezzaworks on May 19, 2022, 01:23:58 am
Looking at doing a few jobs and thinking I may replace this too. Which one is the best or most reliable etc

Thanks

go for g,  £20 cheaper than d and works better, mine has lasted 2 years on stage 2 so far

Just had a price off tps. £46+vat for the G.

I've owned the car for a while and I'm getting work done next week so will replace a few maintenance bits. Be handy if I decide to sell too.

Ordered. Assume relatively straightforward to fit

Yeah it’s a piece of cake. I had a rev G fitted by R-Tech in Nov last year. I feel like the cars lost a bit of power and I’m hearing whistling noises on acceleration so need to inspect mine…..

Also check the boost pipework for leaks as there are many causes of turbo whistle.  The worst one being the turbo itself, unfortunately.

Oh don’t…
I had some glitter in my oil filter…

I only said that because I've had to buy a new one myself for the same reasons.

My last 3 oil changes have had gold flecks in it, not loads, but enough to point the finger at turbo bearings.  Plus the whistling noise, reduced power/response, increased lag, reduced mpg.....

I'm glad the flecks weren't silver/copper coloured as that's far worse. New engine time.

Well all being well by next week

Wheel refurb.
Dv.
Oil change etc.
Maybe the steering rack. May go with the gen 3 off western power steering. I have someone who can code. Assume the gen 3 would be as straight forward to code as the 2?.

Then decide wether to sell and by a megane 250 or maybe we a newer golf.

I'm not sure you'd like the Megane for long once the novelty wears off.  They're a bit, erm, French

I can recommend a MK6.  Really nicely made cars compared the MK5 and not too new, so that everything needs a laptop to fix like the MK7 & 8.

Gen 3 is easy to code, you just need to tell the ABS module to use the angle sensor in the rack, and not the column.  Then you just set the driver profile, I think I covered it all in the Gen 3 sticky thread.  No Gen 2 still uses the column clock spring like Gen 1.

Cheers. I've noticed lately I can hear like a clock spring noise lock to lock. Mine is lowered on h&r springs. Tbh it's probably always been like this, just noticed it due to the yellow steering light on.

I've had quite a few cliosports over the years. Fun cars.

my revision g from dealers was only £57 all in, and took 5 mins to swap once car was jacked up and supported with jack stands,  i take the wheel off slide my chest under the brake disc and use a 5inch t30 and and 10mm spanner,

Great stuff, sounds easy and have a ramp in work. Be interesting to see what the old one is like.

I relocated mine to the K04 position. A lot easier to check/change, but only did it as a project when I had boost issues a few years back......still a nice mod though

Yeah I don't think I could be bothered with jacking the car up to check the DV, so good move relocating it to the front VW  :happy2:  Although VW were forced to do that as Borg Warner didn't put a DV port in the K04 turbo for some bizarre reason!

I think K03s eat DVs quicker than K04s due to the heat down there.

Totally agree

So if my diverter valve is knackered then I shouldn’t be hitting boost right?
Just done some logs tonight using the “Calculated Boost” on the CarScanner app and it hits 22psi then tails off to 20ish psi.
I just don’t know how accurate the “Calculated Boost” is…

Thing is it’s peachy and responsive up to about 3k rpm, then just goes flat.

The car will still boost just not as strong. I had a leaking DV for 3 years before I checked my boost values lol...
My car hit peak boost of 7psi stock with a leaking DV. Assuming your car is stock and you haven't subtracted ambient pressure you're hitting 8psi. I think stock should be hitting about 11psi.

Recently checked my DV  and although I don't know how old it is, it is a revision G and looks in good condition.
If yours was split or there was a leak, would it hold that much boost? Wondering if it could be a fuel or timing problem?

k03 stop pulling hard after 5k  anyway,  start building boost at 1700rpm when the dv closes, but you wont feel it until just after 2000rpm peak torque is around 3000rpm and will really drop off at 5000rpm,

A split DV will also make a blow off noise with a standard airbox, and not feels punchy. ..........a great reason to fit a boost gauge, to keep an eye on things.

Looking to fit mine this afternoon just waiting for the ramp to be free in work.

Fitted. Just took it up the road with a smile on my face. It's back to how it was when I bought it, quick.

The old one looks OK. Part number 06F 145 710 C

Looks to maybe be an aftermarket one?

I've only seen A, D and G revisions personally.

If you google 06F 145 710 C, it does come up with 'RIDEX' and 'BORSEHUNG' type brands, so maybe a cheap copy.

It's good when cheap parts restore the power  :happy2:

Did see a thread with a chap who had one on his ed30. Then swapped it to the G and was like it feels like it has 80bhp more ha ha.

But yeah very happy :)

I giggle at VW revisions of their DVs. They keep circling back around to slight "improvements" on past designs of both the Diaphragm and Piston types. They seem unable to "PICK" one.

I.e. the diaphragm designs of Rev.-G and those it supersedes.
And then Revision 'C' and 'J' are very similar piston-design diverter valves;
