Title: My turbo flutter is gone
Post by: OllieVRS on May 26, 2022, 01:50:18 pm
But more importantly the turbo compressor surge is gone too.

After needing a friend to weld out one of the hex 5mm bolts on the DV that I stupidly stripped, I replaced the DV with an OEM Rev G.

Here's the old DV, which easily got stuck at a strange angle when pressed, but didn't have any tears in the diaphragm. It was a Pierburg Rev C:

And here's the turbo flutter with the old DV:

After changing to the rev G the sound is completely gone, all that's left in it's place is a quiet 'pssh' every time you let off the accelerator.

Apparently the sound before (which I now realise was the turbo surging) is not good for the turbo, so it's good for the performance and turbo's lifespan that the sound is now gone, but it makes me sad as it was something I really enjoyed :sad1:

i no expert but i assume thats the way it should be and turbo surge is bad for the turbo, maybe the fact the old dv was jammed was causing it? the onlt time mine has had flutter was when i bought it with a stupid forge spacer which was leaking and causing issues.. after going back to just the revision g the only sound i get is a psss when letting off

I bet the car is more responsive now.

did you retap a new thread for the new dv if not this will leak boost regardless of a new dv,

I bet the car is more responsive now.

It's roughly the same if coming on boost, as the DV was correctly closed on boost, but not open fully (if at all) when off the accelerator.

It's a little more responsive when I let off the accelerator and then press it again. But the major issue was possible damage to the turbo, as well the possibility of CELs.

I'm not sure what you mean? I got a whole new DV with 3 new bolts, so I don't think there should be any new leaks.

But with the rev G I have the exact same pssss as you, so I assume everything is now working correctly. The car is still as powerful in a straight line as it was before, just faster in situations where you have to momentarily let off the accelerator, like going around a bend
