hi all i been lurking a while and seen some helpful things on here and boy do i need some help now , iv got a 2005 golf gti axx engine on 126k and its idling ruff has hell and has stalled before it was also smoking before quiet bad and down on power . i have had it scanned on vcds and its not showing any codes the pcv has been changed and the plugs was changed and the inlet was cleaned and the injectors as i was informed there was bad fuel in the car so r tech did the work and replaced the plugs and clean the inlet and injectors .
There is no smoke now but just before i parked my car the idle became real ruff again and it nearly stalled also there was a noticeable pop now and then when i lifted off throttle im at my wits end with the car now but its a shame as i love it . any help would be welcome as i said its not showing any codes .
thanks in advance for any advice or help.

Pops from the exhaust is usually a sign of over fuelling.

I have a similar issue with mine and wondering what could cause it to be over fueling
When I bought mine it would occasionally pop when listing off the accelerator. It has since stopped doing it. But all the time I’ve owned it it’s had a boost leak somewhere. I’ve changed the pcv and hoses, hpfp and lpfp etc, coil packs sparks have yet to change the dv valve but I checked the one on it and it looks perfect. The car drives perfect until it just goes into limp mood and feels like it’s not boosting has no power.
The car idles quite rough but never cut out just bouncy and was smoking a bit until I put the car back in

Bad idle on these cars is usually always down to one of two things, or both together:
1) Fuel delivery.
2) Air leaks.
Most common cause for 1) is bad injectors. Don't waste time and money cleaning them, replace them.
Most common cause for 2) is aftermarket intake kits, neglect, shoddy maintenance, etc etc.
