Hi all,
I have a 2005 GTI and I’m quite frustrated at this issue I’m having.
So it all started few months ago when my yellow “Check oil level” light came on. I stopped and checked the oil and it was fine. The light disappeared after opening the bonnet but reappeared later same day. So I knew something was off and started to check all the forums and answers online. Long story short I changed the oil level sensor but the light came back. After some time I cleaned up the oil pick-up tube in the sump (it was not clogged or anything at all) and thought maybe that had helped but light reappeared and always reappears always after ~30-50km.
Any thought from you guys? Anyone has any suggestions maybe? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Check the wiring harness to the senor if levels are fine as you say.

The only thing that stops the warning is the car sensing the the bonnet has physically been opened
The microswitch in the bonnet lock can get gummed up, usually a good clean will get it un-stuck - hope its that simple

When you say fine, does that mean clearly between max and min?
I once bought a car where the seller had overfilled it, resulting in a warning. His approach had been to add more oil. I drained to the correct level and opened and closed the bonnet a few times and it never came back.

Yes I have read this many times and thought maybe it was it, but if I open and close the bonnet the light disappears for a while but then comes back on again. So it must mean that the switch is working, it turns off the lights as it senses that I have opened the bonnet but then comes back on again after some time.

Yes, it is precisely between max and min. I’ve changed the oil since then, as I said even dropped the sump to clean it, also changed the oil sensor on another occasion. What I’m saying is that I’ve refilled the oil quite some times to the right level. The problem still reoccurs.

I will check the harness as soon as I get the chance, this is the only thing that is left to check basically so I will give it a try.
