Lookin' good. I've seen this mod before and have always been in two minds. Part of me wants a clean grille (no badges) but part of me wants that mod.

Where from, how much and what glue?

So to clarify, you superglued it to your front grille?

So to clarify, you superglued it to your front grille?
Yes it is long enough to make contact with the Honeycombe grill in 4 places , so i pressed the badge on first so it marked the sticky pad, then put a thin bead of super glue to the sticky pad where it was marked and refastened.

I like the look of it but not sure I want to superglue it? Won't it melt the bits of the grille it's attached to? So if you did ever want to take it off you'd have to replace the grille?

Why would i wanna remove it Nath? im not going to buy another ed30??.

And the reason why i left the stickypad on is the glue is applied to that so it will be obsorbed more by that and not damage the grill.
You cannot get enough contact to use just the adhesive pad that comes with it. It will fall off especially in this cold weather. The glue ive bought isnt super strength resin, the type that wont melt toughened plastic.(cheap £1.99)
It didnt melt my skin if your thinking that using glue will be too strong for lightly mounting onto the grill.

i did consider this myself, but never got around to it, looks like they have put the price up as they were about £7+ vat when i got mine, i was going to hot glue some wire to the back of the badge and use that to tie wrap it on as well as the sticky backing

Post by: Phil Mcavity on January 08, 2009, 04:20:36 pm
yes i called 2 dealers, and both were £9+vat=£10.35

Ebay is more if you add P+P.

Neither dealer had them in stock, but got it in nxt day.

Could get damaged/pitted? Seems a good idea anyway and as long as the glue wasn't too strong i'd consider doing it..........

Nice one Steve  :jumpmove:

Yes Hot water and soap seperated my 2 fingers, so that tells me it wont damage the plastic  :happy2:

or means next time i wash the car, badge will just fall off   :signLOL:

Phil, Glad your enjoying the mod. For all you guys wishing to fit this there's no need for superglue, mine has been on the car for the past 6 months through the winter and all the salt plus it also gets washed atleast 3 times a week!! Still stuck hard! Original discussion on this can be found on the 'other' forum below.

http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=101522.0

Cheers for the credit for the original idea Phil!

Raj, get back into a GTi, go for maybe a pirelli, which is a real collectors as not many are around, some good ones on vw used car search , high spec for 19K.
Did you get a good figure from your insurance payout??

Phil don't like the pirelli's , if it is a GTi its got to be Ed.30 fully specced in white !!! Insurance paid out okay a bit over 19 , however i reckon they still undervalued it, the engineer told me that they paid 185 for the nav/system , it was a 1500+ option !!!!

Out of 2 mk5 Gtis, 2 have been crashed heavily !  still rate the safety of these cars however, solid, will save your life, i walked away from the ed.30 crash alive, if you saw the car you think i would have died inside.

Totally agree on the safety front of the mk5, I genuinely think if I'd been driving something else when I had the prang, things might have been different
