£27.50 for 5l! Is this normal or a great price?
-
Think I used to pay 30 quid or 35 and that was about 3 years ago so very good price I think. They've only just started stocking the stuff I believe so probably a new product on the shelf discount I imagine.
-
This is the right stuff isn't it? Awesome are only stocking 5w30 by the looks of it
-
Just went to buy it and shipping is £15!

That's remaining stock of the old stuff.
Platinum Plus 5W40 is just "Platinum 5W40" now. "Plus" is only available in 5W30 and 0W20 now. https://tps.trade/quantum-platinum-plus
It seems the Platinum range is more geared to diesel engines with DPF (VW 505/507).
For the VW 502 rating TFSIs on fixed 10K intervals need, it's gone back to the "Synta" brand name again that it had years ago.
I suspect Fuchs Titan SuperSyn 5W-40 is the same stuff as the old Platinum plus. Fuchs make the Quantum oils.

Balls. Didn't realise there was a difference... bought 5w40 platinum.. so this is no good?

Quantum Platinum 5w40 is perfectly fine.
-
5w40 platinum is the sweet spot for Mk5 Gti
-
I would stick to Fuchs Titan if you want consistency. Platinum keeps changing.
Or treat your engine to Motul "Specific VW 505 01 502 00" if you want something a bit saucier.
-
So this is what's come. Platinum plus 5w40.
Doesn't have 502 on it, but is approved for vw 511. I don't really understand plus to this detail, but from digging around online it looks like it's approved for high performance vag models

This is what I have in mine with no issues.......but I do oil changes every 6 months due to short journeys
-
VW 511 should be fine. It's for "Gasoline engines with OPF" apparently, which is good because it means it will have been designed to reduce oil consumption, which is useful on TFSIs
I think it supersedes 502. 502 is, or was at least, for petrol turbo engines on fixed service intervals and 5W40.
I can't keep up with these constant changes but as above, platinum or platinum plus 5W40 will be OK.

If you're worried about cost, just find the 20L boxes, works out cheaper in the long run.

Pretty sure I've read that oil should be used within a year of opening.
