Title: HELP - Both fans spin max speed after turning off car
Post by: OllieVRS on March 29, 2023, 06:55:15 pm
Hi all,

Both radiator fans spin up about 12 seconds after turning off the car and go full speed, indefinitely. Turning the key to position 1 from position 0 turns them off.

Found out this is what caused my car to drain from 12.6V to 8.5V overnight last night.

Yesterday I was replacing the alternator fuse after an accidental short circuit while taking out the alternator yesterday, and it started to rain while I had the fuse box open. A little water got in and afterwards I cleaned out each fuse to make sure there wasn't any water left.

Don't mean to sound stupid, but is there a chance that's what's caused this issue?

Apologies for any spelling mistakes, am typing this from my phone in a panic.

Cheers

UPDATE: Plugging out the top right 40 amp fuse, labeled F47 (big orange one) stops the fans from running. Switching the 40 amp fuses around still causes the spinning issue so it's not the fuses.

Also unplugged coolant temp connector to check it, didn't make a difference.

There was a tiny drop of water near the fuse so I'm gonna use a hair dryer to make sure it's all dried out.

UPDATE 2: Hair dryer on low heat aimed at the fusebox seems to have fixed it. Will go on a short drive and come back and see if the issue is still there.

Update 2.5: Yep definitely fixed :)

Usually a thermostat issue but glad you fixed :)
