I have a 56 plate gti and so the subject says im not sure if i have the correct centre console,? Is there a year change that the centre console changed or has a old owner changed it for some reason?

That is the basic, no arm rest option
-
No, the arm rest was an option.
-
The cheaper Skoda Octavia vRS came with an arm rest as standard, but the GTI didn't? that's surprising considering the GTI was at least £2000 dearer new, and that was back in early 2006 :surprised:
-
Can I remove the part at the back and fit a gti centre arm rest or do I have to fit a whole new centre console?

My GTI came like yours without an armrest. They are easy to retrofit.
You can do just the rear arm rest part, but to complete the mod properly and make the rear vents work in the arm rest, you will also need the air vent pipe that fits under the main centre console section. It will connect to the a blanked off hose up behind the Ash tray area and the other end to a pipe in the arm rest if left not taken out already.

This may help

Note there are a couple of arm rest types also. One is just a cubby hole and the other allows for a cd changer or MDI unit which is what I opted for with my RCD510 DAB. The MDI unit also has a small storage area

I already have a damaged one of those aftermarket arm rests in the boot from the last owner. I was just seeing what I could do or if he had knackered part of the arm rest at some time and fitted a standard one in?
