Title: Engine Type
Post by: grey_mk5_2009 on July 26, 2023, 01:59:07 am
I was browsing FCP Euro and rand into two different engines for my year of GTI, the 2.0 L4 CBFA Bosch TFSI MFI 200 HP and the 2.0 L4 CCTA Bosch TFSI DI 200 HP. How do I know which engine I have, and does this engine run a timing chain or a belt?

Well if you have a mk5 I think the answer is neither... If you have a mk5 (not ed30) so the original 200bhp one you'll have an AXX (early cars) or BWA if its a later car.

Could you post a picture of your engine bay?

Also no matter if it's the TFSI (belt and chain) or TSI (only chain) engine, there should be a sticker on the plastic timing cover on the left side of the engine with the engine code.

Here's where the sticker is on my TFSI engine. The engine on my 2006 TFSI is a BWA:

Hope that helps  :happy2:

the MK5 GTI in 2009 did come with the mk6 engine (CBFA/CCTA), to find what one you have open your engine bay and look at your air box and if there is a hose connecting to the box (it will be at the bottom on the box) then you have CBFA, if you don't, you have a CCTA. hope this helps
