Title: New Fuel Injectors on my 100K Golf
Post by: GrizzlyUK on August 21, 2023, 03:42:01 pm
Was wondering if you guys might be able to advise me on some new fuel injectors.

I've got a misfire when idling from 1 cylinder, but completely fine when driving around, in fact I can hardly tell when idling tbh.

I got a quote from my local garage for £725 for 1 fuel injector + labour.

I found some injectors on GSF which are on offer at the minute:

I was also told that unbranded injectors from Ebay may be an option to keep cost down, but if the GSF ones I've posted seem correct, I'll just get them ordered.

Wow that is quite expensive.... They are very expensive but about 250-300 quid so the garage wants 400 quid to just change it? It's not a fun job but jeez that is quite outrageous I think at least.

I've had loads die on me.. Personally what I do is buy a cheap used genuine injector (or 2) off ebay and send all my injectors plus the spares ones to R Tech for cleaning and tell them about any that are misbehaving. Theyll call you up and tell you it's done and they can swap the bad one if it can't be saved.

Then I just fit them back in and all is good until it happens again! They do die at this age to be honest, I don't mind changing them personally, it's not fun but saves a ton of money so. Best thing is to get all brand new injectors but you'll be paying £1300 in parts alone!

Just to add though I wouldn't used aftermarket ones..

Thank you Clarkj93, I'm glad I didn't let them go ahead with the work then.

I won't go on ebay then and order some aftermarket ones either.

Did you see the ones I posted from GSF? Set of 4 injectors £275.44 at the minute with 65% off.

I'd most definitely like to get all 4 injectors done at the same time and pay a little extra for a good clean up.

They might be fine tbh! You're just in unknown territory with aftermarket ones is all. Don't think I've known anyone to use them personally.

Actually think that wasn't the right injector on GSF.

I think you're right, it's going to be more like £1,300 for 4 new injectors, goodness!

Yeah they're pricey, that's why I'm just going around all the used ones but it has become an annual event changing fuel injectors to be honest

Those GSF ones are suspiciously cheap.  Possibly 1.6 FSI.  GTI ones are £160-£185 from Autodoc for Boschers.  As Clarky said, considerably more from VW.

Unfortunately an injector swap is a grand in parts these days when you factor in gaskets, seals, fitting kits and what not.  Another 4 in labour if a garage is new to the job.  Seasoned experts can probably do it in 2 once you have the knack for getting the intake off. I'd rather shove wasps up my arse than do that job again.

Do all 4.  Doing 1 is a false economy as the others will follow suit.  Running the engine for extended periods misfiring will kill the cat converter.

Can you get it to RTech? Their remap/walnut blast/injector refresh pricing is very fair.
