Title: Damp Seat belts
Post by: galaxie500 on November 20, 2023, 11:15:03 am
Morning.
Long time since I’ve posted here having sold my Edition 30 way back in 2016. However, couldn’t refuse a friend’s MkV GTi so I’m back in the fold! He bought it new and I’ve even got the original sales receipt from the supplying VW dealer.  It’s ‘fully loaded’ as they say. It’s a 2006 5 door in Pearl Black and it’s got 116K miles.   Not cosmetically good, the car has had paint a number of times and not especially well prepped or finished and there are dinks and scratches all round.  Not to worry.  It’s ULEZ compliant, warm and almost dry inside….which is why I’m posting today!
The front seat belts are damp; When you pull the belt out and across your chest the lower portion of the belt feels cold & damp compared to the top section.   Anyone else had this? Could it be a leak from below into the reel or from above, down the B pillar, from a blocked sunroof drain perhaps?
Thanks if anyone has a clue!

Thanks.
You may be correct - MOT time coming up in a week or so…..the truth will come out.
There is some evidence of rust on N/S sill but not at the base of the B pillar.
I’ll report back.   Wish me luck!
