Finally, finally made it (on the private drive!!)
Flat, with a slight kink and a very slight uphill end bit.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi156.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ft8%2Fhurdy_album%2FPerformance%2520box%2520pics%2FP1020242.jpg&hash=1bc5bee2e47ef8192249659d6d7f4bff53666fdd)
How did I achieve it?
Today lost 63.4 kg out of the back of the car (seat backs, bench, trim, spare wheel and sub box)
Octane booster and B7T7F7 settings.
1/4 tank of fuel left.
Launch control at 2.2k with R888's onboard.
So that is one of my goals achieved, now all I need is a sub 13 second run on an official dragstrip and a sub 9 minute FULL lap of the 'ring and I'll be one majorly happy bunny. :jumping: :driver:
Time to change the sig. maybe :signLOL:
-
Congratulations mate. The amount you must have spent would get a shiny GTR by now :signLOL:
-
Congrats fella :star:
how long has it taken you?

Not far off. About another £10k maybe :signLOL:
Anyone can buy a fast standard car, but it is more fulfilling to make a decent car fast and it will also be more unique and who'd suspect a Golf to do a sub 10 second run to 100mph eh? :happy2:
Congrats fella :star:

About 2.5 yrs from the onset of my mental illness that is modding

-
Congrats :congrats:

:surprised: :surprised: :surprised: :surprised: :surprised: :surprised:
That is a bloody quick 100 time not for a golf but in general
and a 0 - 60 time in 4.6 seconds is bloody mental for FWD thats got to be some sort of record, what have you done to the car to put down the power ? width tyres ? ect ect.
Also what kind of performance meter are you using mate, racelogic or someone else and how do you rate it, im looking in to buying one at the moment Cheers !

JonnyC has done similar 0-60 times in his ED30 (a 4.5 at inters), so not quite a record.
Tyres are GG rated R888's on 225/45/17 mounted on Team Dynamics 7.5x17 alloys. They have a 6mm wider footprint than the equivalent 18" R888.
To put the power down the Bilstein B16's are at setting 7 on the rear to help stop the front lifting as much, WALK, Autotech ARB's, Quaife LSD, full VF engine and transmission mounts and most importantly DSG with REVO stage 2 DSG map.
I'm using The Racelogic performance box - GPS based and accurate to 100mm in 400m, 0.1km/h and 0.1seconds. I think just about all the performance magazines use the same kit to measure performance. I know EVO and Autocar do. It is an excellent piece of kit and does much more than just 0-60 and 0-100mph. It will do any distance (1/4,1/8,1/2 mile etc), lap times with upto 6 section markers, True G meter for accel, decel, lateral G's, Accelleration Dyno for WHP and BHP + much more.

Was in this car last week on't drag strip (learning the North East English accent quickly me), and it is very fast. Also saw this timer device, and its very cool!

Impressive stuff. Nice work Hurdy. That's some dedication right there.
-
Wow!
Just.......wow! :surprised:
-
Nice one John, 4.6 to 60 is quite impressive :happy2:
How much weight do you think you shed? My mates running a Mk5 Gti (Dsg) in the VW Cup (#51) and has got it down to 1168kg with fuel and a full roll cage, with the weight of the driver its qualifies in the 240bhp class.
Been thinking of putting Eddy on a diet myself, seems the next logical step, I've had a chat with Sam @ VW Racing.
Neil

Hi Neil,
Weighed the car on the weigh bridge last night. The scales are accurate to around 5kg either way and without me in it and a near empty tank of fuel the car now weighs in at 1290kg.
Removing the OEM front seats for lightweight CF ones will save another 60kg, battery 10 kg, so without going too extreme I reckon you could get the car down to 1200kg :happy2:
-
Sub 1200kg easy Peasy.
since your taking the rear seats out there is no need for operating rear windows, plus the rear window is well heavy,, so £300 sheets gets you a seven piece poly window set. lower centre of gravity, 20-30kg ish weight saving. Id leave the front side windows as they are though
1 x MOULDED REAR SCREEN
2 X 2 PC FLAT REAR DOOR WINDOWS
2 X FLAT FRONT DOOR WINDOWS

John I think I know the bit of road you're on about in Sheffield. Used to go down there as a kid on my skateboard...

:signLOL:
In all seriousness mate that's an awesome achievement in any FWD car. Especially in as good an all rounder as the Golf is (although i'm not sure yours is quite as versatile anymore..).
Spot on mate :happy2:
-
superb :happy2:
it was your 30-70 that had me interested... :surprised: :drinking:

3.3 seconds isn't the best I've managed so far.
When I was fiddling about with boost settings I found a setting that had mind bending mid-range, but killed the top end completely.
3.1 seconds 30-70!

There is a "private"road like that around here and I've logged it at 3.7 seconds to 60mph and 8.5 to 100mph
but there would have been a big rat smelling badly in the corner if I'd tried to claim it :signLOL:
-
Not bad times John, but could do better :innocent:
I dont think you are trying hard enough.

You're cheating with the DSG you don't have to change gears :signLOL:. :P.. Have to say you're right about the K04, it's the best mod i have done to my car. Power comes in low like a diesel and stays there until past the redline :star:
-
any one elses k04 have like a jingle ball bearing blade spinning like noise on spool? it seems to be getting louder or is it just me?

Hurdy, do you find F7 better than 8 or 9?
-
Hurdy, do you find F7 better than 8 or 9?
Yes, but I've had the Forge actuator and it seems that my boost 7 now is more like my boost 9 before the swap. Using boost 8 or 9 seems to kill the top end for me now.
-
Sorry i meant fuelling, some say F9 is best?
-
Sorry i meant fuelling, some say F9 is best?
I try to run the fuelling at safe levels that I know look okay from logging with VCDS. Initially I was told that with a HPFP, I'm safe to run F6. Jonny is a big fan of F9 (more air less fuel). I take a more pragmatic view and look at the logs and try to get the AFR between 11:1 and 14:1.
Redline have a great feature on AFR (Air to Fuel Ratio) in this month's magazine :happy2:

....Wanna bring it with ya on our Noodleburgering foray? I'm sure we'll run out of conversation.. Not!
-
Sorry i meant fuelling, some say F9 is best?
....Surely it depends on your individual car's whole specific mix of mods and also balancing with what boost setting you're running.

....He certainly would! Say goodbye to your front splitter, Hurdy!
