Title: Highline clocks retrofit
Post by: trojan767 on February 19, 2024, 07:31:25 pm
Hello peeps,
I have been trying to fit a highline cluster ending in 872 on my golf mk5 with the midline clocks ending in 862 and was hoping for someones help on this.
I got the vag commander cheapo cable and it works fine but for some reason i cannot read the clocks odometer or the skc. When i try it the clocks go black and i need to re-cycle the ignition to get them on. 862/872 clocks are the ones programmable with the vag commander cable and im unsure why it does not work with mine. Any help please?

I have done this to three cars......but a few years ago now.

There is an online guide I used (I will try and find it) and you have to follow it carefully, otherwise you will cause more damage than good.

This guide

You also need to make sure you have the correct stalk and steering module to be able to navigate the highline module.

Hi, yes i have followed this guide and i cannot get the read odometer feature to work on my stock clocks 862 even though the guide says it should work fine. I can only read eeprom from it. Should i try saving the eeprom and pasting it in the new clocks and just add the odometer mileage to the new clocks?

Actually no cant do since i cant read immo data.
My vag commander is 1.4. Could that be the culprit?

Did some digging.
Turns out there are two manufacturers of clusters for the mk5. Visteon and VDO. Visteon which i have cannot be read by vag commander while the replacement i bought is a VDO 872 cluster which can be programmed. Since i cant get the data of my old cluster ( Visteon 862) with vag commander i will need to find someone here to do it for me since special tools and software are needed. Basically the guide in the upper links is valid as long as you have a vdo cluster and youre replacing it with a vdo cluster.
