Hi guys
Have been looking at getting an MDI for my newly fitted RNS510.The question i have is i have the factory fitted ipod prep already in my arm rest but cant find any info as to whether i will need a new harness or if i just plug the MDI into my exhisting ipod prep harness ?
Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Cheers rich. Was hoping that was the case.

Well ive done the old ipod prep to MDI switch and the cabling was entirely different with different connectors.
Sorry to piss on the bonfire, but i though i should let you know my experience with it! ;)

Ok, thanks for pipping up JPC, and sorry Mo for the bad info like I said I hadn't done it but something I read lead me to believe it was the same :ashamed:
Glad I hadnt ordered the 6 cd cable like I had planned. JPC would the best solution then be to do the Kufatec adapter, or is there a VW part number you have used to wire these up in the center armrest?
Seen this on ebay once, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230449491340&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_500wt_1094 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230449491340&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_500wt_1094)

Thanks JPC,
At least i know now what i need to look for.
The hunt begins :D

you can get the cable from kufatec for about 45 quid and then that armrest piece in the ebay add is well priced for a new in stock unit.
Your looking at 140+ from VW! )

The armrest unit from VW is £210 without the harness or device cable, the device cable from VW is nearly £40,
I use partsdealer123 now again and they are usually good but sometime can send damaged units out so if they do just tell them and they will swap it without question...they do try it on with damaged units.
VW actually do do a retro hraness so you can keep the aux if you have that already.
Cheers

I want to do the same switch. How do you remove the iPod armrest? I can't seem to find any information on how to remove it.

I am wanting to fit the arm rest MDI . I have the AUX in socket in the arm rest just want to make sure i buy the right parts.
I am going to buy the arm rest MDI from parts123 on the bay but can anybody confirm what other lead i need .
Morty do you know the part No for the cable that lets you keep the AUX in from VW.

Mike,
Have a look at this thread for the part numbers for the arm rest. I don't know the the correct part number for the right cable, mine is currently set for use with just the CD Changer, but my "expert" has made a loom to allow it to connect the following (CD Changer, external Aux socket and glove box MDI) all into the back of the RNS510... :happy2:

So finally fitted my armrest MDI today. After giving up trying to find an MDI harness on ebay i got one from Kufatec.
Total spent £110.03
£64.98 for the armrest MDI from ebay
£45.05 for the plug and play harness from Kufatec.
Very pleased now that i can finally use my iPhone in the car, and charge it too. :happy2:
