Title: Fault codes and MIL light
Post by: Hayden on July 24, 2024, 11:07:19 am
Hi all, I have a stock Mk5 gti on just under 90k.

Recently had my first engine management light pop up on the dash while driving. Took it to a garage for diagnostic but they just cleared the light and told me to come back if it returns (not sure I'll be going back). I have a picture of the diagnosis and was wondering what peoples opinions are on continuing on driving. I need to do around 200miles this weekend but are comprehensive about driving it. The diagnosis results are in the attached photo. Thanks in advance

Wouldn't worry about that code, its either the charcoal canister,  purge valve not working an air leak on a pipe or the fuel cap is leaking.

Agree with above.  I wouldn't worry about P0441.  Just cancel the fault.  Likely faulty purge valve or charcoal canister.
The purge valves tend to stick with age.  Simple fix, but not a seroius problem.

Thanks for your advice. I'll look into the purge valve. How about the other code about the coolant fan, is that of much concern? I haven't noticed the car overheating if that's what it would cause.

You don't get fuel trim adaptations when the purge valve fault codes, so I would get that sorted sooner rather than later.  Start in the order of cost - Fuel cap, purge valve then charcoal canister (genuine).  Sometimes replacing all 3 is the only way to get rid of it.

Check both fans are spinning with the air con on.  If they are, park that until you get back from your trip.

I didn't know that. Might be why my old Ed30 drank fuel  :scared:

It's a German car buddy. Anything emissions related - adaptations = denied
