Remove the engine cover and turn it upside down. Clips.

The 'clips' are heat welded onto the main cover so will need to be broken to be removed I'm afraid. When done just glue the centre strip back on.  :happy2:

lol someone on here told me ages ago that it clipped off but I do remember others using a solder iron to melt the clips back on? Or am I just hallucinating again?

On my 06-build, 05-plate GTI the clips aren't welded but have a ridged end and just pop in and out.

On our 06 Passat the middle clips were glued and the others weren't. You'll just have to see I guess.

I removed centre panel of my engine cover by first removing the some of the plastic weld at each attached point beneath cover,to show four slots where the silver plastic meets black cover, using a sharp blade cut each slot as deep as you can ,slowly remove centre panel ,checking each slot has been cut free, our you will break cover ,hope this helps:drinking:
