Title: Temp not exceeding 70 degrees.
Post by: epnaughton@yahoo.com on March 25, 2025, 07:49:25 pm
Hello everyone 👋🏻

Recently imported a MK5 GTI from Japan.

Took it out for its first spin after waiting 4 months for it. Drove for approx 20miles and noticed the temperature gauge did not exceed 70 degrees.
I’m thinking it may be the thermostat that needs replacing.

Not sure if it matters but fans are blowing very hot and cold when selected!

Any advice would be hugely appreciated!

Yes sounds like the main thermostat needs replacing. Had the same on mine (also a Japan import) and did both the main thermostat and inline thermostat for peace of mind. I think if it never gets to temp it’s the main and if it gets up to temp but very slowly it’s the inline.

Hello

I think it's better to have the car diagnosed and check using a computer, you can check for a temp sensor, fan or thermostat issues. I think this way will avoid you pay some cash without a certain reason.

99% of the time it's the thermostat. Not an expensive part but annoying to replace.

When I first got mine I noticed the same, it was the first job I done on mine while I was doing the the timing belt. Mine is also an import.
