Title: Recommend me a sports cat that will pass MOTs and not cause me bother
Post by: dennis10 on April 15, 2025, 04:58:11 pm
Please could anyone recommend me a sports cat that will pass MOTs and not cause me bother for the foreseeable future?  I picked up a used stainless steel downpipe for just £25, but don't have any faith in the cat that is on it, so would like to purchase something that I can have welded in for peace of mind.

I think it’s going to be hard without spending a fair wad of cash. I had a magnaflow welded in and it passed 3 mot’s (about 30k miles) then failed miserably. BCS power valve are the best from what I can gather although I think you’d have to buy at least the downpipe. Hopefully someone else can recommend something.

Yeh seems difficult to find something reliable. I did message BCS directly to see if they could sell me just a cat on its own, but have heard nothing in a week.

Surely there is something out there that can be considered a decent cat.

Depends on the tester and how far they are willing to go, but for the most part, any 200 cell cat will pass if revved high enough for a long enough period (4k rpm for 2 mins)

I just cut a section of my downpipe out and before each test I fit a sports cat. I use these kinds of clamps to hold the pipe/cat in place:
