Hi,
I’m trying to retrofit from lowline to highline cluster and unfortunately my lowline cluster won’t read pin for me on K-CAN commander while my highline reads out pin no problem. Anyone had that problem before or can someone direct me in right way before I actually go to locksmith?

Depends on the cluster part number, as the later versions (ending in 3 onwards) are very difficult compared to the earlier ones (ending in 0 to 2).
What are the part numbers of both?
They also have to be of the same generation.......early with early and a late with a late

Thanks for replaying!
My donor is 1K6920972 and stock is 1K0920854M. As I was looking through forum and someone advised on which cluster to get, for me seemed that 972 most logical for me as I had slip ring type 2 and 1K0953549CH as steering wheel control module.

The cluster you bought is an early one and you have the later original.........so will not work.
The later version like what you have means the immobiliser data and other data is a lot harder to get off ()expert needed and would need to go onto the same type of later cluster which you do not have......of which to my knowledge needs to be virginised.

Would you know what part number in this case I would need to aim for?

The majority of the PN remains the same except the end 9XX
5X - low line
6X - mid line
7X - high line
with the last X being the immobiliser version
0 is the first gen, then 1, 2, 3, 4 etc
I have not seen a GTI cluster like yours with 1K0 and an 8XX on the end so assume it is not a GTI. The GTI PN is 1K6 920 9XX like what you bought.
The PN equiv needs to match yours, so would say 1K6920974 and that is not a home DIY job

Ah yes, no mine is not GTI or anything similar. It’s 1.4 petrol. Thing is that I want to retrofit few things. Thanks very much for your help and if you have any other advice let me know, thanks!

Would be able to tell me on some PN what I found online some have letter at the end, what each means? Is there any table for me to see what it means?
