Title: VCDS block 93 Phase position bank 1 = +1KW when should be - 0-6KW?
Post by: toerag on April 24, 2025, 06:18:55 pm
I had my engine rebuilt on my mk5 gti about 3 years ago. All has been well apart from occasional P0000A and P00016 codes which was attributed to a dodgy VVT.
I have replaced it but sometime later the codes came back. I decided to check the chain tension just in case on VCDS using group 93 and have gotten a value for phase position bank 1 intake of +1KW all past posts i can find are about stretched chains producing high negative values but not positive.

What does a postive value mean? is my timing off elsewear? I have access to VCDS so can run additional checks but I am a bit out of my depth... Attatched is what i was looking at.

I am assuming these values are when the engine is up to temp.

The cam adjustment intake B1 should be 28.0 +/- 0.5 but is way out at 25.5 degrees

The 5.9% should be about 50% which means the adjuster is not changing much on a perfectly timed engine, so 5.9% is almost maxed out in one direction to keep it in time.

Need to see group 092 also

I would say it is out the timing or you have chain stretch which is on group 092
