Hi guys,
Have some cash leftover from my previous car sale and thinking about playing it safe and getting the timing chain done on my 06 GTi, it's on 125k miles and has had two cambelts, one fairly recently in 2024!
I have a relatively 'tappy' engine, granted it's definitely no louder than any other MK5's that I've owned before but thinking it might be worthwhile getting the chain sorted whilst i have some cash spare. What parts exactly do i need for this as I'd likely buy parts then take it all somewhere to be fit?
Obviously the timing chain kit, but is there anything else worth doing whilst you're in there?
Cheers!

There is a way to check that the chain is in tolerance using VCDS/Obdeleven. Might be worth doing this first?

This is worth a read

Ahhh okay, I didn't realise there was a way to check beforehand! I maybe need to invest in VCDS/OBD, can anyone buy those and assume they just use a license?
