Hey folks, has anyone had their headliner replaced recently (MK5 Golf GTI) due to the common sagging issue? Would really appreciate any tips or recommendations for decent upholstery trimmers in the Sussex area. Cheers!

I've replaced mine a couple of years back with a good one from a breakers yard. Its also now sagging so recently had the original board recovered by a local guy.
Currently waiting to fit it, the material is slightly lighter but a good match
Hopefully this will last longer

How much did that end up costing you?

Hi, I received varying quotes ranging from £400 for an exchange and fitting, to around £550–£650 for a full retrim of existing headliner. Since mine has a sunroof, it might be slightly more expensive. There was also a DIY option available at £200, which includes supply replacement (returning your old existing headliner) and fit it yourself. It’s on my to do list to finalise which option to run with. Hope that helps.

Recover the existing board was £250
Complete job was £500 which includes removal re-trimming and refitting of the board.
I'm going to fit mine myself when I can get chance
There are some aftermarket boards available now
The Anthracite headliner from VW is now discontinued and not available
I'm told The mk6 board is exactly the same shape
Mk6 gti/gtd etc grey colour is a lot darker almost black but are still available to order from VW

I've been down the rabbit hole as i need to do mine soon, from what i've found the fabric material is called 'SunBrite' and you'll need it in Charcoal Black (SB2469) for a GTI.

I've mostly found American sites selling it, Good luck!
