Title: RESOLVED: clutch pedal stuck half way/not returning
Post by: hcmzah on January 19, 2026, 11:02:08 pm
it seems like my car wants to have all the problems right now

im having an issue where my clutch pedal is getting stuck halfway on return sometimes. it mainly happens when im braking and coming up to a junction/roundabout.
especially on dual carriageways/motorways when im going 50mph+. i then have to pull the pedal back up and keep pumping it so i can change gear.
in the mornings, the clutch has little pressure and is low, so i also have to pump it before driving.

i've already changed the clutch master cylinder, bleeder block, changed and bled the fluid.

i've also had a clutch, flywheel and slave cylinder replacement a year ago. could the slave have gone again?

There's a shim kit you can can get for the gearbox that sometimes fixes this.

Was a thread on here about it.  https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=121344.0

Thanks, I had checked this before and saw no play at all. It’s a 2007, kdq gearbox. I think these came shimmed from factory

Still stuck with this issue

i've now resolved this issue. since changing the master cylinder, i couldn't get the clutch bleeded correctly. i kept pressure bleeding and pressure bleeding but the pedal would still feel terrible.
i then found a single post about this online where someone had the same issue. they suggested to have the car tilted downwards, pressure bleed, tilt upwards and bleed again.

this ended up working. i guess the air bubbles go to the highest point at each tilt which is the master and slave cylinder
