Title: P0480 Fault Code - Cooling Fans?
Post by: Husy on April 03, 2026, 09:07:37 am
Hi everyone,
Getting a P0480 using OBD11 scanner on my 2008 Mk5 GTI (BWA / EA113).
Large fan works (with AC on), but the small fan doesn’t seem to kick in. No overheating yet.
Has anyone else had this? Was it the main fan/module in the larger fan or something else?
Cheers 👍

Use VCDS to do some fan output tests, but with AC on the small fan should kick on.

The fan controller is built into the big fan, so if that is faulty and not turning on the little one then you will need a new fan pack.

Appreciate it 👍 I did look at swapping the fans, but decided to stick with OEM-spec Vemo. Managed to source a V15-01-1870 setup (fan 1 with control module, fan 2, and full shroud) from Autodoc for £245 all-in, which felt like a bit of a win. Dealer wanted close to £900, and most aftermarket options were £400+ for lower quality.

Good price for new  :happy2:

I had bought a low mile Sirocco R 2010 rad pack for £120 a few years back, as I wanted the revised larger intercooler........in the process it gave me a spare genuine fan pack and radiator  win win
