hi lads, i have a 2005 gti dsg and ive noticed there is a delay between 1st and 2nd in my car, its only noticable when in first and i accelerate quickly... i mainly drive it in D, any ideas lads on what the problem could be?

Can you check for any errors on VAGCOM...
Would be tempted to disconnect the battery for a while to let it reset itself. See if the problem goes away.
My DSG you can only tell its changed up from the rev counter, the display and the pop from the exhaust. No pause or lack of drive etc.

na nont have VAGCOM.... but could disconnectinting the battery help???

The battery will reset everything, bit like rebooting a computer. But VAGCOM would be the way to go - would detail the problem and if possible re-set the error code.
If you are close to Leeds I may be able to help with the VAGCOM - but I am a real novice.

For the DSG you will need to do a basic settings reset with VCDS (Clicky (http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/6-Speed_Direct_Shift_Gearbox_%28DSG/02E%29)), sorry but removing the battery will do nothing :happy2:

im in ireland, might be able to get a bloke with VAGCOM, should summit on dash light up if a problem thou?

Very unlikely. A DSG mechantronics (basically the gearbox brain) could be faultly but it's worth trying the basic settings first and the mechantronics isn't cheap :scared:

Aido, I have an 05 GTI DSG, and occassionally get a lul between 1st and 2nd, but not when driving hard its more when crawling along. If I accelerate even moderately then it shifts perfectly and all the other gears function perfectly.
Steve looking at the ross tech wiki, do you go through and reset all values, and then with vagtech still installed do the test drive as recomended? Also since one of the catergories is cruise could retro fitting a crusie stalk without re-setting the value have an affect?

Not sure how many miles on your car, but as it's an '05 I'm assuming you've done at least 40k miles. If so, have you changed the DSG gearbox oil and filter? This should be done every 40k miles and if you are still running original oil, this might be responsible for the sluggish upshift...

Cars only done 30k DSG oil change is something that ive been considering doing ahead of schedule along with an oil change/service but only on 7k since last full vw service (on long-life oil)
In your experience mclovin does the DSG oil change have an effect on the shift quality, did you notice a difference when you got yours serviced or changed?

Most people report improvements after a DSG oil and filter change.
Since installing a Revo DSG remap everything feels smoother too, but that's expensive just as a remedy.

Shift quality has definitely improved since I had the oil and filter changed, not that it was bad before, it's just perceptibly smoother now. Shift speed remains unchanged, but this was never a problem with my gearbox.

Very interesting, sounds like a good investment. Like I said it was something I was considering but more just for piece of mind, but if the consensus is that it provides a noticeable improvement then would be a worthwhile investment. Thanks Mcloving and RR.
Aido, have you had your DSG oil changed since new or is it same as mine, not changed since car was new?

only have the car bout 2 months, theres 80k on the car and im not sure if the dsg oil was changed its due a service soon i think i'll get the dsg done too.. it happens when im crawling and and accelerate fast it jumps into second making the car jump... if that makes sense!!!

Yeah makes sense, is it just on 1st to 2nd shift? The shifting on mine improves once the engine and gear box are up to temperature, which I suppose would suggest the oil could be contributing rather than the dreaded mechatronic, do you see the same behaviour?

yeah its only between 1st and 2nd... not sure if it stops when gearbox temp heats up.... will keep an eye on that.. yeah hopefully its just in need of an oil change, just checked the service history there and theres nothing mentioned bout gear box oil change so hopefully thats the answer. thats the only prob im having, it selects perfectly through the other gears

I would be interested to know Aido next time you go on a long run. You said your due a service soon, how soon? I have a VCDS cable so I could try the DSG re-set as was suggested, but a little un-sure if I want to fiddle with the DSG settings if an oil and filter change is all thats required.

I have a feeling DSG may have decided sometimes to be 'ready' in 2nd gear in these circumstances & a sudden acceleration as you describe, can momentarily confuse it as to whether to drop a gear hence the lull.

Aidogti: did a dsg oil change and/or dsg reset/basis settings adaption do the trick eventually?
