It is quite basic to be honest just the usual R32 tweaks like Xenons, highline, cruise, leather, etc.

Since Friday it has gained a RNS 510, Skoda Bluetooth and a res-Milltek cat back exhaust which sounds awesome.  :happy2:

For the future I have just won an EVOMS intake from ebay and maybe some suspenders.

Who are you going to let remap it or wil you just leave it as is.

I had a look on bluefin website and it said they don't do a handset for the R32.
Title: Re: Hedge's new whip
Post by: Hedge on April 25, 2010, 02:10:46 pm
I thought they did Sy but I don't think I will play with the software anyway........but never say never.

My Bluefin handset has gone to a new home anyway.
Title: Re: Hedge's new whip
Post by: VC on April 25, 2010, 02:26:48 pm
tbh mapping the .:R32 is pointless unless the zorst and the intake cause it to run a bit rich then you can use it to smooth the curves out a little
Title: Re: Hedge's new whip
Post by: Hedge on April 25, 2010, 02:29:04 pm
I spoke with Jim @ JKM about it and with Revo you can adjust the sensitivity of the throttle response on the Select Plus.
There are gains to be had in the midrange as well but it seems all a bit pointless to me.

http://www.mybluefin.co.uk/search?make=38&fueltype=1&model=159&variant=1799  it says there is a superchip available, for a 15Hp/15Ibft increase, and its only £239 which isnt so bad TBH.  looking at the graphs they have there it loos like you have that 15Ibft for pretty much the entire rev range from 3-7k
Title: Re: Hedge's new whip
Post by: VC on April 25, 2010, 02:34:46 pm
you can make the throttle a little more aggressive, but its smoke and mirrors

get in a mapped 32 after driving yours and you wont notice the difference. Ive seen alot of mapped 32's on the rolling roads and never once seen more than a 4-5bhp increase in real life despite claims made by people like revo, custom code etc etc

my last r32 was mapped, you wouldnt have know though

just my 2p's worth  :innocent:

IF you want to mod it at all, I'd go for a 3-way Haldex switch - The Mk5 R32's I've driven in the Haldex Sports(?) switch (or was it called Race?) feel much more alive when pushing on.

Otherwise, ARB's?

@ RR does that haldex control shift more power to the rear?
Title: Re: Hedge's new whip
Post by: VC on April 25, 2010, 03:23:37 pm
theres 3 haldex you can have iirc (front/rear power distribution) 70/30 50/50 30/70 with the car being 70/30 from the outset
Title: Re: Hedge's new whip
Post by: Janner_Sy on April 25, 2010, 03:27:26 pm
it'd have to be the 30/70 split, that would be awesome

I'd have to ask the friend who had the car (he's now got a Porsche - Take special note, Hedge). I've lost touch with the other guy. But APS would know for certain.

All I remember was that it made the Mk5 R32 feel much more fun with a tad of very correctable understeer.

don't think the controller is cheap tho but from what i've heard it absolutely transforms the way the 4WD R32 drives!

....Which is exactly why I suggested it  :happy2:

Around 6-700 squid I think, but one of the few simpler mods to do to a R32 and with very rewarding returns in the joy department.

It's all very well considering expensive turbo's and superchargers etc to willy-wave the power but useless without driveability/handling.

APS (Ed) are good peeps to ask more detail about it.

the r32 isnt 4wd

its front wheel drive, the haldex moves the power to the rear when the car gets squirrelly, how much power depends on which haldex your using

Spot on  :booty: and as Vc has said dont map its a waste of money as i found out with my mk4 r32 as they make about 5bhp from a map and the best is when firms like aps claim 300bhp from full exhaust, cams and intake  :signLOL: i never seen one make over 280bhp and thats some money to throw away for about 30bhp  :rolleye:

Ok, so you told me it wasn't going to be modded!!  I accepted the plumbing because of course that just makes sense.  Then you tell me about the EVOMS, which ok I can sort of understand but then I think back to you removing the one from your GTi as it made it less refined but then you start mentioning Suspenders!!!!  You need help man

Although whilst spending money it may be wise to have a look at a little thing that Robin mentioned -

Not sure if it's still the case but there was a used one for sale on VAGOC (Jamiekip)

Ian, if you're going to keep the .:R for a bit and enjoy some spirited driving (when appropriate), then prioritise buying the Haldex Gen2 and don't do other mods to help save up the money.

On the Mk5 R32 I'd say that zorst to amp the V6 music and Haldex2 are the only mods to do. The rest is a lot of dosh for small returns regarding power.

It's your car of course and obviously entirely up to you and what floats your boat. :happy2:

Yep, thrashed it - if I wanted RWD, I'd have bought a BMW. I'm not saying I couldnt feel the difference, just didn't see the need on the road and the 3-way switch looks horrible too. I want a car that's sure footed. I don't want to make it more likely to get tail happy on a wet round-about. Besides, over steer slows you down and has no place on the road.

Any-hoo, waaaay OT - sorry to spam your thread Ian  :ashamed:

Reversing Camera - DONE!

Not without its problems though. :ashamed:

A hoooge thanks to Sparky Craig for his time and effort today, and for being so understanding.  :ashamed:

Thanks to Quality Dave aka Stokeballoon as it was his kit. Cheers mate gratefully received.  :happy2:

Thanks to SteveP, CamelUK and Maverick on MY-Gti for their guides. :happy2:

Special mention to SteveP for pointing out my skoolboy error and for answering his phone.  :happy2:

So anyway. Install took around 2-3 hours but when we tried it no picture not even a blank screen. Checked all connections, buzzed cables, measured levels, using VCDS saw the car in reverse.
Even went as far as swapping RNS's with Craig which at least proved mine could work. Lots of head scratching at this point.
It was about this time that I called SteveP and his first question was is the boot closed. Doh!  :chicken:
Closed the boot and we at least saw something on the screen. Yay. It was blank but at least we saw something.

I then proceeded to dick around with Aux input/levels in the setup menu. Fook me it started working. Put everything back and it still worked.  :fighting: :fighting:
No need to delve further. Put the 2 cars back together and say a small thanks to whoever was watching over me.
Jobs a good 'un.

However I do owe a hoooge apology to Craig as through my inept sausage fingered clumsiness I managed to drop my screwdriver, which bounced and scratched his car. Had it scratched mine I would have said c'est la vie but someone elses makes me totally gutted.
Sorry mate, I will fix it. Whatever you want :ashamed:

How very dare you. Warranty of course.

It hasn't been great since I had the car and a few times in the last weeks it left me lurching around in neutral when I pulled away in a hurry so thought I would stick it in.

I went out with the tech and struggled to replicate it but he said as I was there he would update the software and do Basic Settings. Seems better after that but I guess I am right in the target zone for faulty units being an '08 plate so they are changing it.

Hope you get it sorted Ian, seems VW are having a few snags with the Mech unit, any Idea what part of it exactly throws a double six?

Title: Re: Hedge's new whip
Post by: Hedge on August 09, 2010, 04:44:44 pm
I can't seem to get into that linky Dave.

Not sure what the underlying problem is regarding the Mechatronic unit itself but there seemed to be a bad batch from late '57 plate cars through '08 to early '58's I think. I know of quite a few people with cars from that time frame that have had it replaced. My Edition 30 had one replaced.

If I can find out more I will post but methinks it is probably one of those things where they have a few criteria and if you meet some or all they just do it regardless.

Just dont let them wash your car again Ian

Funnily enough we discussed that. I promised someone a good shoeing if it happened again.  :fighting:

I would assume more serious then the Shocker sticker dictates :signLOL:

....That girl who laughed at your hand sticker, Ian, sounds like she may enjoy such things as St.Steven suggests!

....That's very much how it was with the Mk5 DSG units with problems. I believe it was driven mostly by the fact that VW dealership techmechs weren't trained to take apart a DSG and that individual component parts weren't on offer from Volkswagen.

You would have thought that it would have been sorted for the Mk6. However, white worm on VW supplied wheels hasn't changed!

Yup! I only got around 24mpg out of a 2 litre Clio, so what this thing drinks might just give me panic attacks.  :signLOL:

Actually, if I'm serious for a minute, it's not as bad as I thought it was gonna be. Tis very good on the motorway and terrible in town, so I just need to move near a motorway!
