Right,
since ive had my bluefin on when i get to 5k in first gear the car gos nuts making a buuuurrrrrbbbppp noise lol if you get what i mean lol and its misfiring i had this problem on an old supercharged bmw i had . the problem was due to the sparkplug gap ive changed all the plugs today and its still doing it . has any one got any ideas ? its driving me nuts
-
bluefin guys will be along soon, but I seem to remember that an incorrect map (manual vs dsg) may cause this.
First thing Id check is you have the right map for your gearbox type :happy2:

is this with esp on by chance?

is this with esp on by chance?
How come? Got a miss fire at the min doing coilpacks at the weekend. Started when i put ngk irridiums in. put srd bosch plugs in and its not as bad but missfires when driving hard...
-
is this with esp on by chance?
yes it is havent tryed it with it off but esp wont cause a missfire tho surely
-
Is it at 5k under high load? or at any throttle position?

under highload

I have seen this a lot laterly on the TFSi engines. I usually try and replicate the fault on the dyno, often its a missfire on coilpack number 4. Only ever see it on mapped cars as well.
I usually replace all 4 plugs, if that doesnt solve it I will change coilpack 2 for number 4 and retest, if the missfire moves to cyl2 then I know its the coil.
If you need a set of coils I have 12 brand new in boxes, original VW items as well. will sell at -20% off retail.

Are you manual or DSG? Ed30 or GTI?
Have you tried it with the map removed?
Superchips have a bit of history with sending manual maps to DSG cars. Nothing fatal but quite annoying. The symptoms are similar to what you describe however on my Ed30 with stage 2 it went from about 3k until 5k at which point it pulled cleanly.
On stage 1 with the wrong map it went from 3-4.5k but was much less pronounced as the stage 2 map.
Or it might be a plug/coilpack problem but try the cheap options first

Just took her for a lil drive and its really bad with esp on with esp off you can hardly notice it
my gti is a manual with bluefin stage 2 it didnt do it with stage 1
have also changed the coils with a spare set i have and its still the same
wondering if thes plug i got today are dodgy .

Hmmm. Sounds promising. Try it with the original plugs and see.

2nd that advice.
My missfire was at around 3000rpm in 6th gear travelling at a constant speed of around 70mph.
-
it done it with the original plugs thats why i got new ones today lol
think ill buy some platinum or iridium ones i think what are the best plugs to buy ?
-
I wouldnt try more plugs, if it was doing it with the originals, and with new ones then its likley to be a coilpack. Maybe take others advice on getting the map checked as well.
What other mods are on the car? did it do this with just stage 2 or on stage 1 as well? what have you changed to go to stage 2 other than the map?
-
cold air intake system and turbo back miltek exhaust also a forge bov adaptor. i only used stage 1 for 2 days as i wanted stage 2 in the first place and it didnt do it with stage 1
-
sounds like possible lean sneeze as you have cold intake, you need a high pressure fuel pump, and someone with vcds to do some data logs
-
Not going for a HPFP? seems a waste not to with that spec!
-
not atm funds are to low lol
i was told only needed HPFP with stage 2+
-
With cold air intake, you will see potential poor fuel pressure under load.
I would say if you dont have funds, then install panel filter in factory airbox and remove cold air intake untill you can afford to fit, or you could cause more damage then harm leaving it as is.
-
nooo dont say that i dont have a standerd air box as ive just rebuilt the car i got it as a salvage car and the engine cover was smashed to bits lol
-
On the Ed30 Bluefin stage 2 only requests 110bar from the fuel pump so should be fine.
However get hold of someone with VCDS if you don't have it yourself and do some logs.
-
HPFP can pick up +20hp and +25 ft/lb on a stage 1 tune and even make gains on stock. I have seen stage 1 tunes with turbo back exhausts and an intake cause fuel cuts and missfires.
as a test, put the original intake back on, see if the missfire goes away.
If you want a HPFP I have some Autotech internals, new in the box.
-
just going to try all the cheap things first LOL ill take these plugs back tomorrow and swap them over as i know the owner and see if that helps if not im gonna cry lol
-
is this with esp on by chance?
yes it is havent tryed it with it off but esp wont cause a missfire tho surely
basically you say it mainly happens in 1st gear, and your hear like a brrrppp noise, which could be esp kicking in and it does make the car sound likes its misfiring to some people. Basically just esp kicking in cutting the fuel or something like that.
So if it doesnt do it with the esp off I would argue that its not a misfire. Obviously if it does it in 4th or 5th gear its nothing to do with the esp.
